The Gilmer Bobcats are the best wrestling team in the region yet again. Heavyweight region champion Denny Ramirez GHS was at Heritage High School last Tuesday for the Region 7-3A traditional tournament and won the event for the 22nd time in 23 seasons.

3 Lady Cats heading to state

The Gilmer Lady Cats returned from area as the No. 2 wrestling squad. GHS made its way to the University of North Georgia last Wednesday for the Area 6 traditional tournament. Thirty teams were in attendance, and host Lumpkin County took first over the Cats, 260.6-157.

Lady Cats drop 2 region games

The Gilmer Lady Cats found themselves on the losing end of a pair of region basketball games. GHS was at Heritage (20-4) last Tuesday. The Generals got revenge after the Cats won their first meeting of the season. Gilmer took a three-point lead into the break after a low-scoring first half.

Bruins pull away from Bobcats in fourth

The Gilmer Bobcats are set to wrap up the regular basketball season. GHS was on the court for two region games last week and hit the road versus Heritage (16-6) Tuesday. The Generals’ hot shooting night put Gilmer in a 23-point hole at the half.

GHS Lady Cats rout Ramblers, 67-28

The LaFayette Ramblers were the latest to fall at the GHS gym. The Gilmer Lady Cats hosted the Ramblers (16-7) for a region basketball showdown last Tuesday. GHS shot the ball well from outside, and its defense took care of the rest.

Too many turnovers trouble Bobcats

A slow start doomed the Gilmer Bobcats. The Cats welcomed LaFayette (14-7) to the GHS gym last Tuesday, and the Ramblers led early and never looked back. The Cats had issues at both ends of the court, and as turnovers mounted, the Ramblers’ lead widened.

Gilmer’s Braelyn Nelson and the Bobcats began the Region 7-3A traditional wresting tournament at press deadline. Gilmer is seeking its 21st traditional region championship over the past 22 seasons.

Lady Cats improve to 7-1 in region

The Gilmer Lady Cats are in sole possession of first place in the region standings. The No. 9 ranked Cats hosted No. 4 Ridgeland (16-3) last Tuesday, and the outcome was the same as their first meeting. Back in December, GHS gave RHS its first loss of the season.

The Gilmer Bobcats sent the Panthers back to Ridgeland with a region basketball loss. GHS and Ridgeland (8-12) continued region action last Tuesday, and the Bobcats had to overcome a slow start.
