State prelims up next for Lady Cats

The Gilmer Lady Cats have successfully completed the first stage of the state wrestling qualifying process. GHS traveled to Lumpkin County last Saturday for the Area 6-3A duals and posted a 1-1 record to continue its season.

Bobcats set for region duals

The Gilmer Bobcats are gearing up for the Region 7-3A duals tournament. GHS was scheduled to wrestle in events ahead of both Christmas and New Year’s Day, but only the former came to fruition. In what was originally scheduled to be a 10-team dual tournament at White County High School Dec.

Lady Cats host third annual ‘Bash’

It was a day for all Lady Cat wrestlers at the Gilmer Bobcat Bash. The annual event drew 26 teams to the Noah Harris Wrestling Center last Saturday, and the varsity Lady Cats placed fourth. Carrollton claimed the team title, Cedartown was the runner-up and Central Carroll claimed third.
The Lady Cats’ defensive play has been a hallmark of the team this season as displayed by Mak Taylor (10), Jace Sanderson (33) and Bree Burnette (14) at the Piedmont Holiday Classic.

Cats bounce Fannin County, win tourney

The Gilmer Lady Cats avenged a previous loss and won a tournament championship in the process. Fannin County, which entered the week 11-1 overall and ranked No. 5 in Class A, was in town last Monday for the finale of the Piedmont Holiday Classic, and the Cats were up for the challenge.

GHS finishes 2nd at annual ‘Classic’

Gilmer Bobcat wrestlers turned in another runner-up tournament performance. The annual Coal Mountain Classic at North Forsyth High School drew 15 teams Dec. 19-20. GHS placed second by half of a point to Richmond Hill, and 12 Bobcats reached the medal stand.

Rebels hold on vs. GHS Bobcats

The Gilmer Bobcats tangled with an old rival for the championship. GHS hosted the undefeated Fannin County Rebels last Monday to close out the Piedmont Holiday Classic, and the Cats nearly pulled off the upset. FCHS jumped to an early lead, which Gilmer cut into over the next two quarters.

Lady Cats earn spot in title game

The Gilmer Lady Cats will meet Fannin County to decide the Piedmont Holiday Classic championship. GHS is hosting the four-team event and snagged two wins to begin the tournament. The Cats faced Copper Basin last Friday, and the Cougars led for most of the game.

Clear Creek eyes MS state duals

Clear Creek wrestlers proved they are still one of the top teams in the Mountain League. CCMS hosted the annual league tournament Dec. 12-13, and duals were held on the first night. The Bobcats finished as runners-up before winning the traditional championship the following day.

Dawson rallies in second half versus Bobcats

Clear Creek Middle School wrapped up the basketball season at the Mountain League tournament. The seventh-grade Bobcats made it to the title game against the Dawson County Tigers last Wednesday.
