Lady Cats grapple way to 3rd place

Lady Cat wrestlers played host and claimed third place. The Gilmer Girls Holiday Duals had some of the best teams in Georgia in attendance last Saturday at the Noah Harris Wrestling Center. GHS took the mat six times and won four matches.

CCMS Lady Cats fall to Fannin

Clear Creek met an old rival on the basketball court. Clear Creek’s Blair Whitaker draws a crowd before shooting a close-range jumper. The CCMS Lady Cats hosted Fannin County last Monday, and the Lady Rebels notched two wins.

Gilmer Sports HoF set for induction

The Gilmer Sport Hall of Fame will induct three new members in its latest class.  This year’s honorees include former athletes Joey Robinson (class of 2005) and Josh Hensley (2005). Also entering the hall of fame under the “support” category is longtime newspaperman Mark Millican.

Bobcats win 10 matches

The Gilmer Bobcats were on the mat for 10 matches and won them all. GHS was at Murray County High School for the Todd Granger Duals Nov. 22, and the Bobcats posted a 5-0 record. They made their way to Cobb County for the Etowah Duals last Tuesday and won five more.

GHS outlasts Wesleyan, 47-36

Gilmer snagged a win over Thanksgiving break as they continue to learn and implement coach Sean Glaze’s system. The Bobcats attended North Forsyth’s holiday tournament and met the host Raiders Saturday, Nov. 22. Turnovers hurt Gilmer and NFHS took advantage for a 59-37 win.

Region play on tap for GHS Lady Cats

The Gilmer Lady Cats stayed close to home for their round of non-region games. GHS took on a pair of larger schools at Pickens, and Woodstock was up first on Nov. 22. Gilmer led by 10 at the half, but WHS came back in the third and fourth quarters to force overtime, where the Wolverines won, 48-47.

Undefeated Bobcats outscore opponents, 118-5

The UFA Mountains 14-under Bobcats finished the regular season undefeated, outscoring teams from Dawson, Union and Pickens counties. They capped off the fall season as UFA Rec Rocks Tournament champions and were 4-0 against teams from the metro Atlanta area.

Cats outlast Union

The Gilmer Lady Cats were in Union County to deliver a defeat to the Panthers. GHS played the nonregion game last Tuesday, and the Cats’ sloppy play nearly cost them. Neither team took care of the ball particularly well, but Gilmer did just enough for a 56-53 victory.
