Gilmer High on track for three meets

Gilmer track and field athletes had an action-packed week with three meets. The Bobcats and Lady Cats were at home last Tuesday, and the former finished first at the four-team event. The Lady Cats placed second on the girls side.

GHS tennis drops two matches

Gilmer continued its region tennis schedule with two more matches. GHS hosted Calhoun last Tuesday, and the hometown Bobcats lost 4-1, while the Lady Cats were defeated, 5-0. Gilmer was at Northwest Whitfield two days later, and the Bruins won the boys and girls matches, 3-2. No.

Bobcat tennis wrecks Ramblers

Gilmer Bobcat tennis picked up their first region win of the season. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted LaFayette last Thursday for their second region matchup of the season. The Bobcats were victorious over the Ramblers 3-2, and the Lady Cats lost, 4-1.

Yellow Jackets sting Cats in overtime

Gilmer and Calhoun went at it before and after the final buzzer sounded. The Region 7-3A soccer matchup contained plenty of physical play last Friday. Emotions ran high at the match’s conclusion, which ended with the visiting Yellow Jackets securing a 2-1 overtime victory.

Tigers clip Bobcats on diamond

Gilmer came up just short in their latest region series. The GHS Bobcats faced the Adairsville Tigers (12-4) last week and were on the road for games one and three. AHS hosted the opener Wednesday and the Cats were limited to two hits as the Tigers pulled out a 2-1 win.

Calhoun outlasts Lady Cats

Gilmer took on one of the region’s top teams and battled until the end. The GHS Lady Cats hosted the Calhoun Yellow Jackets (9-2) last Friday for their only match of the week. While the Cats controlled the action early, it was Calhoun who cashed in the first goal.

GHS track hosts five-team meet

Gilmer opened its track and field season at home. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted Dawson County, Union County, Cherokee and Pickens last Thursday. The Bobcats racked up 66 team points for third, while the Lady Cats secured the same position in the girls standings with 33 points.

Bobcat soccer mauls Heritage, 7-1

The Gilmer Bobcats were on the field for a pair of soccer matches and added another win. GHS hosted Cherokee last Tuesday for a nonregion battle. The two squads played an even match until the waning minutes when the Warriors netted a goal and held on for a 1-0 victory.

GHS tennis takes down Woody Gap

Gilmer had a busy week on the tennis court with four matches. GHS hosted Woody Gap last Monday, and the Bobcats and Lady Cats both won without losing a match. Gilmer was at Heritage the following day and lost 5-0. The Cats fell by the same margin against Fannin County at home Wednesday.
