Gilmer had a busy week on the tennis court with four matches.
GHS hosted Woody Gap last Monday, and the Bobcats and Lady Cats both won without losing a match. Gilmer was at Heritage the following day and lost 5-0. The Cats fell by the same margin against Fannin County at home Wednesday. The Bobcats and Lady Cats closed out the week Thursday and lost the rematch at Fannin 4-1 and 3-2, respectively.
Eight-game pro set scoring was used for the Woody Gap match. Top single Ryker Hice won 8-2, while No. 2 David Warren and No. 3 Raymond Ewing were victorious, 8-0. Doubles Bo Cronic and Aiden McCart rolled to an 8-1 win.
Lady Cat Mak Taylor came out on top 8-2 in the No. 1 singles spot. Addie Duggan won 8-2 and No. 3 Rosalie Ballew secured an 8-4 victory.
At Heritage, the Generals earned wins over Bobcat singles No. 1 Alex Miltiades (6-1, 6-2), No. 2 Chase Little (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 Hice (6-4, 6-2). No. 1 doubles Warren and Harper Davenport (6-2, 6-0) and Cronic and McCart (6-3, 6-4) were both defeated.
HHS took all three singles matches over the Lady Cats as No. 1 Ballew (6-2, 6-0), No. 2 Taylor (6-0, 6-2) and No. 3 Autumn Spangler (6-0, 6-0) all fell. Chelsy Griggs and Bree Burnette lost 7-5, 6-4 on the No. 1 doubles court. Harley Dupree and Lillian Reece fell 6-2, 6-1.
Fannin claimed wins over Miltiades (6-4, 6-1), Little (6-4, 7-6, 7-1) and Hice (6-2, 6-2). Warren and Davenport won the second set 6-4 but lost the first (6-1) and tiebreaker (10-2). McCart and Cronic came up short 6-4, 7-5.
The Lady Rebels all won in straight sets over Burnette (6-0, 6-0), Griggs (6-0, 6-1), Taylor (6-2, 7-5), Ballew and Duggan (6-1, 6-0) and Spangler and Reece (6-3, 6-2).
Pro-eight sets were used in the Fannin rematch. Little nabbed the Bobcats’ win on the day, 8-5. FCHS won the remaining matches over Miltiades (8-2), Hice (8-4), Warren and Davenport (8-6) and Cronic and McCart (8-7, 7-4).
The Lady Cats’ wins came on the doubles court via Burnette and Griggs (8-3) and Reece and Spangler (8-3). Fannin defeated Taylor (8-3), Duggan (8-0) and Ballew (8-3).
The Bobcats have a 2-5 record and the Lady Cats are 1-6. They hosted Murray County at press deadline and LaFayette will be in town Thursday for a 4 p.m. match.
