Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) Deputy Sheriff Jake Knight first picked up a gun at 5 years old.He’s been shooting ever since.“Pretty much my entire adult life, I’ve either served my community or the country,” he said.

Primaries end with Post Two Commissioner close finish

Primary season came to an end Tuesday, June 16, as Gilmer found out who would be the next Post Two County Commissioner and who would be in the general election.Democrats have run no candidates for Gilmer’s Post Two Commissioner post, so the Republican primary determined the election winner.

East Ellijay City Council sets new millage rate

In their Wednesday, June 17 meeting, East Ellijay City Council members voted to keep the city’s millage rate the same as last year.Their vote for a continued 3.0 millage rate was unanimous. They also voted to waive collecting these taxes during the year 2026 and 2027.
