The Gilmer Bobcats battled until the very end of their state soccer playoff match.GHS was in Bainbridge (17-1 record) for the opening round of the Class 3A tournament April 22. The No. 29 seeded Cats took on the No. 4 Bearcats, and the home team needed a penalty shootout to secure its victory.

Three Gilmer High track and field athletes have punched their ticket to the state meet.GHS was in Jefferson last Saturday for sectionals. Lady Cat Lilyan Cook turned in Gilmer’s best performance on the day with her second-place throw in the discus (120’ 3”).

The Gilmer Bobcats finished third at the Area 7 tournament at Field's Ferry Golf Course to qualify for state. GHS posted a team score of 318 behind Calhoun (316) and Northwest Whitfield (311). The Lady Cats placed fourth in the girls standings with a 191, missing state by five strokes. Above from left are Bobcats A.J. When the Gilmer Bobcats earned a berth into the baseball state playoffs, they made program history.The Cats’ trip to the postseason marked their third in a row, which established a program standard.“That was a broad goal that we had going into this season,” said head coach Jeff Thurman.

Raiders comeback vs. Bobcats

The Gilmer Bobcats did not shy away from their opponent following the conclusion of region soccer play, and they nearly pulled off the upset.
GHS was on the field at home last Tuesday to host Southeast Whitfield (11-4), the No. 14 ranked team in Class 5A.

Gilmer basketball hires new head coach

Clay Crump has been tabbed to lead Gilmer High School’s boys basketball program.
GHS announced the hire in an April 3 press release and noted Crump “brings a wealth of experience, a proven track record of success and a deep commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the court.

The Gilmer and Calhoun baseball series included just about every scenario.
First came a blowout, followed by a low-scoring affair ahead of the series finale that included 27 total runs and 30 hits. Unfortunately for the GHS Bobcats, they were on the losing side each time.
