Gilmer’s Lykins, Johnstone win state swim titles

Gilmer swimmers Law Lykins and Ryder Johnstone are state champions. The Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s Class C state meet was held in Tifton last Thursday and Friday, and the Gilmer Swim Team returned from the final competition of the season with top-three medals across 12 events.

Official football practices begin for Gilmer High School Bobcats

The days of voluntary football practices are over at Gilmer High School. The GHS Bobcats officially got underway Monday following six weeks of preseason preparations. Aside from days when they attended seven on seven passing, the Bobcats reported at 6:50 a.m.

Elly Callihan was a two-time all-state performer for the Gilmer High Lady Cats. When she takes the basketball court next season, she will do so for the Berry College Vikings.

GHS cheer puts competition routine in place

Gilmer High’s competition cheerleaders have been busy in recent months honing this season’s routine. Ahead of the summer, cheerleaders were in the weight room beginning in March to work on conditioning and strength training, which ran through the end of spring.

The University of Georgia’s Sara Mosley has added All-Conference and All-American honors to her illustrious softball resume. The UGA junior third baseman was either the team leader or second on the roster across eight offensive categories.

Wright wraps up first summer with Lady Cats

Head coach Dani Wright has started to lay the groundwork for Gilmer High Lady Cats basketball. Wright was named Gilmer’s head coach in the spring before finishing up the school year at Archer.

Dylan Galloway is no stranger to success on the wrestling mat, and he hopes to continue that trend at Life University. Galloway graduated from Gilmer High School in May, and earned an All-American distinction for the sixth time in June.
