Seth Darling’s career plans are sky high, and Middle Georgia College will help propel him upward. Darling is a 2022 Gilmer High School honor graduate with distinction, and he is set to attend MGC and play baseball for the Knights.

GHS Bobcats let it fly at June football practices

The Gilmer High School Bobcats returned to Pettit Field to continue their preseason football preparations. GHS players and coaches have been convening four days per week in June, and each morning’s weight training session is followed by on-field drills.

Gilmer High youth summer camps underway

Gilmer High kicked off its annual slate of summer youth sports camps last week and they will continue throughout June. Soccer camp will be June 20-22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sign up can be completed at Threeriversac.com. Softball camp will be held June 20-22 from 9 a.m.

Owen Moss will make the move from Ellijay to Franklin Springs in the fall to continue his academic and athletic endeavors. Moss is a 2022 Gilmer High School graduate and is set to enroll at Emmanuel College where he will wrestle for the Lions.

Rosser moves on to Kennesaw St. baseball

Brooks Rosser may have closed a chapter of his baseball career, but there is still more to the story. Rosser, a 2018 Gilmer High alum, graduated with honors from Truett-McConnell University where he attained a business administration  degree last month.

Johnstone tabbed to be new head coach of GHS swimming

Paige Johnstone will be there to lead the Gilmer High School swim team this upcoming season. She will take over for Mary-Melissa May, who spent eight seasons as Gilmer High’s head coach. Johnstone, 29, is also Clear Creek’s girls head cross-country coach and an assistant girls soccer coach at GHS.

GHS youth summer camps start next week

Summer vacation is right around the corner for Gilmer County students. Gilmer High School will kick off its annual slate of summer youth sports camps beginning next month. Cheer camp will be held June 13-16 from 9 a.m. to noon at the gym located at the Larry Walker Education Center.

Berry College is the next destination for Clara Smith. Smith is a 2022 Gilmer High honor graduate with distinction and the third alum over the past 15 years to receive the opportunity to play golf in the college ranks.

Veteran educator Adam Palmer is next in line to take over the Gilmer High School girls soccer program. Palmer’s entire teaching and coaching career has been spent at Clear Creek Middle School where he has led the boys and girls soccer, cross-country and golf programs.
