Gilmer High cross-country runners were on the trail for a pair of races as they continued the season.
GHS was in Blairsville last Thursday for the Run to the Hills 5K at Meeks Park to take on Union, Rabun and Fannin counties.
The girls were up first, and while the Lady Cats did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score, Gilmer’s Amelia Raymundo clocked in at 28:50. She was followed by Lady Cats Jayla Walker (28:56), Kamryn Baxter (29:47) and Carly Becerra (33:23).
The boys 5K was interrupted by lightning shortly after it began and coaches opted to cancel with hopes to reschedule it at a later date.
Gilmer made its way to Rome Saturday for the 30th annual Ridge Ferry Invitational. The Bobcats finished 27th, and Talyn Mesner was first on the team with a personal best time of 18:58 for 52nd place.
Bobcat Michael Little was next in 20:19 for 91st and followed by teammates Larz Fowler (21:36, 123rd), Christopher Chun-Bell (22:34, 133rd) and Will Capstick (24:03, 143rd). Matthew Hennessee’s time of 24:56 was a personal best and he finished in 142nd place.
The Lady Cats only had two runners in attendance. Baxter posted a time of 27:23 and placed 91st, while Becerra finished in 29:11 for 101st. Both times were personal bests for the Cats.
Two Bobcats competed in the junior varsity race, and Max New ran a personal best time of 22:35, while Daniel Gonzales finished in 30:06.
Up next is the Big Peach Mustang Stampede Sept. 10 in Acworth.
