Clear Creek softball continued league play with two more games and the Lady Cats secured another win.
CCMS was at home for both games, and first up was Union County Tuesday. The Panthers were able to build a decisive 6-0 lead before Cats roared back. CCMS still found itself down 6-2 in the fifth inning and evened the score in the sixth.
International tiebreaker rules were in effect in the seventh, and Clear Creek came away with a 7-6 victory.
All six of Union’s runs were scored in the first inning. Lady Cat Braylee Stewart pitched the final six innings and struck out nine Panthers while collecting two hits offensively. Lily Jones had a four for four performance while Sarah Dale went three for three.
Emma Cagle had two hits and drove in two runs. McKenna Taylor knocked in a pair of runs as well, and both Makayla Martin and Jaylee McDaniel had one RBI.
Lumpkin County was in town two days later, and this time the Cats were not able to complete a comeback in a 8-2 loss, which marked their first of the season.
“We have had a great start to the season,” said head coach Tina McDaniel. “So far, we are 3-1, and the girls are playing with confidence and camaraderie as a team. Our pitching and our defense have been our strongest areas of play; however, I would like to see us start driving the ball more at the plate. Our base running has improved.
“We have a lot of softball left to play this season. My eighth graders have really embraced the leadership role. We are looking forward to the remainder of the season and continuing to get better as we go.”
