Grant Cochran will take the mound for Toccoa Falls College next baseball season. Cochran is a 2022 Gilmer High graduate and the recruiting service Next College Student Athlete helped him land on the radar of college coaches.

Gilmer High’s football schedule will have a wide variety of opponents in 2022. Some games will be against teams Gilmer — then Ellijay High —  first met seven decades ago, others are versus some of the Bobcats’ longest standing rivals, and another is a first-time foe.

Galloway is an All-American for sixth time

Gilmer High School 2022 alum Dylan Galloway just added to his stellar wrestling resume. Galloway competed at Disney’s AAU Scholastic Duals in Orlando last week and posted a 9-2 record to help team Special Ops finish third in the all-star gold division.

Gilmer’s 8U baseball all-stars take second in state

Gilmer County’s 8-under baseball all-stars are state runners-up.  The Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s Class C Coaches Pitch State Tournament was held in Claxton last week. Gilmer posted a 3-1 record through four rounds to earn a title shot against Lumpkin County.

10 Gilmer swimmers qualify for GRPA state meet

Gilmer swimmers are one step closer to the state meet. The Georgia Recreation and Park Association’s District 5 Class C meet was held last Saturday at the Calhoun Aquatic Center, and 10 Gilmer swimmers made the trip.

All-American Tony Olea is one of three Gilmer High School alumni who is set to continue their academic and wrestling careers at the next level. Olea graduated from GHS last month, and he selected Emmanuel College as his next destination earlier in the spring.

GHS baseball starts to replace 7 seniors in June

Gilmer High entered its third week of summer baseball as the Bobcats look to replace graduated starters in its varsity lineup. GHS head coach Jeff Thurman and staff started their offseason preparations June 6, and player participation has been in the low 20s through the first 2 1/2 weeks.

GHS youth summer camps hit final stretch

Gilmer High’s youth summer camps are winding down as soccer, softball and football take the field this week. Boys Basketball camp will be held for two different age groups and both will be June 27-30 from 9 a.m. to noon and the cost is $55 if preregistered or $65 at the door.

Dominic Tarantino’s academic journey spanned across four states, and his next stop will be The Citadel. Tarantino is a 2022 Gilmer High graduate, and he fielded football offers from LaGrange College, Centre College (Ky.), The Citadel and Wesleyan University (Conn.).
