The Gilmer High Lady Cats snagged their first volleyball win of the season.
GHS headed south on Hwy. 515 last Tuesday for a pair of region matches versus the White County Warriors and host Pickens Dragonettes. Matches were the best of three sets, and WCHS topped Gilmer 2-0 before the Cats bounced back for a 2-1 victory over rival Pickens.
Gilmer hosted Fannin County two days later, and the Rebels came away with a 3-2 nonregion win over the Cats.
The Cats only had six kills against White, who won by scores of 25-19 and 25-11. However, GHS got its offense in gear versus Pickens. The Dragonettes won the opening set 25-19 ahead of the Cats’ victories of 25-22 and 15-13.
Hali Hice was Gilmer’s top hitter in its win over PHS with nine kills while Taylor McCormick was there for seven. Brooke Wilson and Anneliese Vaughn added three kills apiece. Adrian Thompson set up 10 points and Vaughn was there for five assists. McCormick also had 11 digs, Vaughn had eight, Gracie Cain finished with six and Libby Pike had three.
Pike gave GHS a boost from the service line with four aces and Vaughn scored three. McCormick led the way with two blocks.

The GHS junior varsity Lady Cats fell to White 25-21 and 25-23. Pickens earned a 25-15 win in the second set sandwiched between GHS wins of 25-21 and 15-13. FCHS topped the Cats 29-27 and 25-22.
The varsity faced North Murray (2-1 win) and Murphy, N.C. (2-1 loss) Monday night. GHS traveled to Dawson County at press deadline, and the Cats have a 2-5 overall record.
