67 out for Gilmer High School spring football practice

The Gilmer High Bobcats have started to put the pieces in place for their 2022 campaign. The start of spring football practice last Wednesday marked the beginning of head coach Paul Standard’s second year at the helm.

CCMS holds annual spring practice

Clear Creek Middle School was on the field for two weeks of football spring practice. Head Coach Willie Dodaro and staff wrapped up practice last Friday, and there are currently 27 rising eighth graders and 31 rising seventh graders on the roster.

GHS golf caps season at area tournament

Apple Mountain Golf Club was the final stop of the season for Gilmer High. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats made the trip to Clarkesville last Monday for the 10-team area tournament. The Bobcats’ top-four scores tallied 380, while the Lady Cats finished with a 295 from their top-three golfers.

Gilmer High School advances to ‘Rocket League’ Sweet 16

Gilmer High wrapped up the spring Esports season with three of its teams in the postseason. GHS had a pair of teams compete in “Rocket League,” and the Bobcats advanced to the Sweet 16 while its Lynx Rufus team earned one state tournament win.

McCormick wins region high jump title

The track and field postseason is upon us, and the Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats were in action in Flowery Branch. Eight teams gathered for the Region 7-3A Championships last Thursday and Friday. A top-four placement was needed to advance to sectionals, and GHS achieved that feat 13 times.

Gilmer’s golf season ends

Gilmer High golfers wrapped up the regular season with a pair of nine-hole matches. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats were on the course for matches last Tuesday and Wednesday. Gilmer’s Gabe Lifsey reads a green. GHS was on its home course at Whitepath against Union County.

Cherokee Bluff bears claws vs. GHS Bobcats

The Gilmer High Bobcats faced one of Class 3A’s top baseball teams to end the season. GHS met Cherokee Bluff last week for a three-game series, and the top-10 ranked Bears earned the sweep. Game one was played in Ellijay, and GHS found itself down by four runs in the sixth.

Gilmer soccer bounced from state playoffs

Gilmer High was tasked with facing an Atlanta private school to start the Class 3A soccer state playoffs. The GHS Bobcats made the trip last Wednesday to Westminster, and the Wildcats proved to be a formidable opponent.

Gilmer High track and field set for region meet

Gilmer High track received a final tune up ahead of the region meet. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted Pickens and Fidelis Christian School for senior night last Tuesday.
