Gilmer High endured its third region softball loss at the hands of the Wesleyan Wolves.
The two teams tangled in Ellijay last Thursday, and everything went right for the visiting Wolves. Gilmer was limited to one hit on the day. Wesleyan racked up 13 hits, which allowed the Wolves to bring a premature ending to the game with a 12-1 victory.
Lady Cat Macy Hamby recorded the Cats’ lone hit. Her solo home run came in the second inning to even the score at 1-1. Over the course of the game, GHS hitters were fanned 15 times.
Wesleyan tacked on four more runs in the third and sixth innings and three in the fifth. The Wolves had five hits for extra bases, and none were bigger than their sixth inning grand slam. When the Cats were unable to cut the deficit to fewer than 10 runs in their half of the inning, the game was called.
Lily Fortune pitched 4 2/3 innings for GHS and gave up nine hits, eight earned runs and struck out one. Zoey Woody tossed 1 1/3 inning and allowed four hits and four earned runs and had one strikeout.
GHS has a 3-6 overall record, and the Cats hosted West Hall at press deadline. Gilmer will travel to Dawson County Thursday for a 5 p.m. game.
