Cherokee, Dawson take down Gilmer soccer

The Gilmer Bobcats and Lady Cats dropped both of their soccer matches. GHS hosted Class 7A’s Cherokee last Tuesday, and the Warriors had their offense in gear. The Lady Cats were up first, and they missed some scoring opportunities while Cherokee did not on its way to a 6-0 win.

GHS Bobcats, Lady Cats lose to Dawson Co.

Dawson County was in town to jump-start the Region 7-3A tennis schedule. The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats played host last Thursday, and the visiting Tigers came away with a pair of victories and did not lose a match. Gilmer’s Kolby Reece and J.D. Taylor won their first set on the No.

The Gilmer Bobcats hung with the No. 4 team in the state for the better part of four quarters.  GHS hosted Hebron Christian Academy last Saturday for the second round of the Class 3A basketball state tournament.

McVey, Hice voted Region 7’s best

Region 7-3A coaches have decided basketball superlatives for the season. Gilmer High junior Jackson McVey was voted boys region player of the year, and Jordan Hice shared coach of the year honors with Pickens’ Bob Martin.

GHS Bobcats roast Rebels, 15-0

Gilmer High crushed Fannin County on the baseball diamond to the tune of 15-0. The GHS Bobcats hosted the Rebels last Monday, and the game was called because of run differential in the fourth inning. Gilmer traveled to Brunswick Friday and Saturday for Baseball at the Beach.

State tournament begins today at GHS

Gilmer High senior Ryder Wofford scored 20 points in the Bobcats’ region championship win versus Pickens last Saturday. The Cats host Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe today at 6 p.m. to begin the Class 3A state tournament. See story in Sports.

Berry’s a flippin’ champion

Gilmer’s Bregan Berry is the undisputed 132-pound state champion in Class 3A. Berry etched his name in the history books last Saturday at the GHSA Traditional Wrestling Championships. The three-day event at the Macon Coliseum attracted the best boys and girls from across the state.

Historic region title for GHS Bobcat basketball

For the first time in school history, the Gilmer High Bobcats are region basketball champions. GHS earned its Region 7-3A title by downing archrival Pickens last Saturday in Dahlonega.
