Five teams gathered at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium for a track and field meet.
The Gilmer Lady Cats were runners-up to Chestatee in the girls standings, while the Bobcats were fifth among boys teams.
It took a top three finish to score team points, and GHS did so 12 times. Lady Cat freshman Lilyan Cook won the discus with plenty of room to spare. Her throw of 109’ was 20’ 5” better than second place. Bobcat Aspen Hataway won the pole vault with a height of 12’ 6”. Teammate John Keener topped out at 12’ for second.
The Lady Cats had four more runner-up placements on the day. They were secured by Amayah Jones (shot put, 30’ 11”), Kenzie Sewell (high jump, 4’ 8”) and Addie Vick (400, 1:07.03). The 4x400 relay team of Aliza Chastain, Esther Bowman, Maria Raymundo and Jayla Walker were runners-up as well in 5:20.17. Dulce Mares finished third in the 100-meter hurdles (22.37).
For the Bobcats, Douglas Callihan claimed second in the shot put with a mark of 44’. Fellow freshman Dawson Richard was a runner-up as well in the discus with a throw of 105’ 9”. Richard also took second in the 3,200 meters in 11:09.85.
The Bobcat 4x800 relay team of Seth Turner, Daniel Gonzalez, Edward Marietta and Lucas Watson turned in a time of 10:49.55 for third.
Behind Chestatee (157 points) in the girls standings were Gilmer (53), Fideles Christian School (50), Pickens (40) and Coahulla Creek (36). For the boys, Fideles (112) was followed by Coahulla Creek (68), Chestatee (63), Pickens (53.5) and Gilmer (47.5).
