Gilmer High School ended its tennis season.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats attended the annual Region 7-3A tournament last Monday at the University of North Georgia. The Bobcats earned a pair of wins but lost to Pickens, 3-2. The Lady Cats took on Dawson County, and the Tigers won all five matches.
The Bobcats notched both victories on the doubles court in straight sets. The No. 1 team of Kolby Reece and J.D. Taylor won 6-2, 6-3. Alex Miltiades and Chase Little claimed wins of 6-2 and 6-1.
The Dragons downed Gilmer singles Eder Martinez (6-1, 6-4), Nathan Hall (6-0, 6-3) and Miles West (6-1, 6-1).
The Lady Cats dropped their five losses in straight sets. On the singles court, Dawson came away with wins over Lady Cats Lyla Engle (6-1, 6-1), Lyric Lowman (6-0, 6-0) and Katelyn Campbell (6-0, 6-2).
The Tigers took down top Lady Cat doubles Lucy Ray and Madison Bradshaw, 6-2, 6-1. The No. 2 team of Bree Burnette and Chelsey Griggs fell, 6-4, 6-3.
Wesleyan defeated Dawson for the girls region championship, 5-0. Wesleyan’s boys won the region title as well by the same margin over White County.
The Lady Cats finished the season with a 0-9 record and five of seven starters return next season. The Bobcats graduate a pair of starters as well and finished the season with a 4-9 mark.
