Clear Creek Middle School baseball makes strides on diamond

Clear Creek baseball turned in a productive season on the diamond.  The Bobcats finished up last month, and rain washed away their last two games. First-year head coach Tanner Davis discussed the year, and the progress the Cats made. “We did very well this season.

McVey lands on AJC all-state team

Jackson McVey’s offseason has been adorned with awards and honors, and he recieved another noteworthy distinction. He wrapped up his junior basketball season at Gilmer High in February and was named to yet another all-state list.

Gilmer High School baseball tames Wolves

The Gilmer Bobcats are in the middle of a state baseball playoff push. GHS continued its region schedule last week and took two of three games from the Wesleyan Wolves. Gilmer hosted Wesleyan Monday to begin the series, and the Cats’ big third inning propelled them to a 6-5 win.

CCMS attends league meet

Clear Creek track and field athletes captured league championships in five events. The CCMS Bobcats and Lady Cats were in Cleveland for the Mountain League Championships March 25. Five teams attended the meet, and the Lady Cats placed third, while the Bobcats were fourth in the boys standings.

Bobcats volley past Warriors, 3-2

The Gilmer Bobcats have reversed their fortunes and are unbeaten in their last four soccer matches. GHS earned a needed region victory to end last week against White County. The Warriors were in town Friday, and the Bobcats got the winning goal off the boot of Brayner Ortiz for a 3-2 win.

No. 2 Pickens sweeps Cats

The hits came for the Bobcats, but the runs did not follow. Gilmer High took on the No. 2 ranked Pickens Dragons to continue the rivalry and region baseball action. GHS hosted the opener last Monday, and errors cost the Cats in a 7-1 loss.

GHS Lady Cats ground Eagles

The Gilmer Lady Cats added another soccer win to their tally and now have 10 on the season. GHS was on the field for a pair of home matches last week. First up was Chestatee Tuesday, and the War Eagles never stood a chance. Three Lady Cats scored on the day, and Gilmer rolled to a 5-0 victory.

Quad meet beckons Gilmer High track

Gilmer High was in Dalton for a track meet ahead of spring break. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats took on three teams at Coahulla Creek last Tuesday. The Bobcats secured second place in the boys standings behind the host Colts, 85-69.5.

Mountain bike team readies for 2024 season

The Gilmer Cartecay Youth Mountain Bike Team has a pair of upcoming events for riders old and new. A meeting for new and returning riders is scheduled for April 15 at the Victory Christian Center at 6 p.m.

Gilmer High tennis eliminated in opening round of region tourney

Gilmer High School ended its tennis season. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats attended the annual Region 7-3A tournament last Monday at the University of North Georgia. The Bobcats earned a pair of wins but lost to Pickens, 3-2. The Lady Cats took on Dawson County, and the Tigers won all five matches.
