The Gilmer Cartecay Youth Mountain Bike Team has a pair of upcoming events for riders old and new.
A meeting for new and returning riders is scheduled for April 15 at the Victory Christian Center at 6 p.m. The team is excited to get more kids on bikes, and to promote a lifelong relationship with exercise for improved physical and emotional health.
This informational meeting is designed to provide a broad overview for folks interested in learning more about the team for sixth through 12th graders. For previous members of Team Cartecay, the meeting is mandatory.
The 2024 season runs from July 8 through October 31.
In collaboration with the Gilmer County Recreation and Parks Department, the Gilmer Cartecay Youth Mountain Bike Team is pleased to announce “Gilmer Goes Cycling” on June 1.
The event is designed to introduce kids to the fun of mountain biking through basic instruction and skills games.
The free event will be held at River Park from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It will take place in the field next to the large playground and is open to those in third through 12th grade. Parents of third, fourth and fifth graders will be asked to remain close by the event to support their little ones.
A functioning bike and helmet will be needed for participation. Free bike and helmet inspections will kick off the event, followed by basic bike skills instruction and bike games.
