Hataway, Cook are region champs

Gilmer High’s Aspen Hataway and Lilyan Cook proved they are the best in Region 7. The Bobcats, Lady Cats and six more schools met for the region meet last week in Cleveland. In addition to Gilmer’s region champions, five more placed in the top four to qualify for sectionals.

Bobcats return to state!

For only the fourth time in school history, Gilmer High qualified for the baseball state playoffs. The Bobcats’ three-game sweep of the West Hall Spartans last week enabled them to reach the postseason for the first time since 2017.

CCMS soccer back atop Mountain League

Clear Creek Middle School soccer has regained its reign over the Mountain League. The Bobcats captured their third league title in four seasons when they defeated Lumpkin County on penalty kicks April 9, 4-3. The win capped Clear Creek’s 7-1 season where the Cats outscored opponents, 28-5.

Lady Cats are home runners-up

The Bobcats and Lady Cats hit the track for the final meet of the season in front of their home fans. GHS welcomed four teams to Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Tuesday for senior night. The Lady Cats were runners-up as Fannin County slipped ahead for first, 81.5-79.

Bobcats eye baseball state playoffs

The Gilmer Bobcats kept their playoff hopes afloat with more region wins. GHS took on the White County Warriors last week, and the Cats bookended the series with victories. Game one was Monday in Ellijay, and the Bobcats offense caught fire early for an 11-6 victory.

Lady Cats, Lopez set new records

The Gilmer High Lady Cats closed out the 2024 soccer season and set a pair of records in the process. GHS was at home last week as soggy weather was present yet again. Gilmer took the field for its final game Thursday against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.

GHS golf downs Fannin

The Gilmer High Bobcats picked up another win on the golf course. GHS hosted rival Fannin County last Tuesday at Whitepath for a nine-hole match. Gilmer’s top four scores were all sub 50, and the Bobcats downed the Rebels, 185-204.

Clear Creek wins league soccer title

Above are Clear Creek Middle School soccer players following their championship victory over Lumpkin County last Tuesday. The Bobcats posted a 7-1 record on the season and outscored opponents 25-3. A full recap of the season and title game will appear in next week’s Times-Courier.

Gilmer crushes LFO, 10-0

The Gilmer Bobcats ended their soccer season by thrashing Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe. GHS hosted the Warriors for senior night last Thursday, and Bobcats mercy-ruled LFO, 10-0. Gilmer hosted Wesleyan two days prior to wrap up its region schedule, and the Wolves won, 4-0.

Gilmer High track runs at Mt.Yonah Invitational

Gilmer High was in Cleveland for the Mount  Yonah Invitational. The annual track and field meet was last Friday at White County High School, and nine teams competed. The GHS Lady Cats (18 points) placed eighth in their standings, while the Bobcats (23.5) finished ninth on the boys side.
