Dowse set to lead GHS Lady Cats

David Dowse was ready to be a football coach, and he traversed that path the first seven years of his coaching career. When a new job took him from DeKalb County to Gwinnett, he stepped on a basketball sideline as a coach for the first time.

GHS Bobcats take series

Some shoddy dugout management ended up costing Lumpkin County a game and the series. The Gilmer High Bobcats entered the second week of their region baseball schedule against the Indians, and GHS won two of three.

Lady Cats cruise past Pickens, 3-0

The Gilmer Lady Cats won their second region soccer match of the season with a rivalry shutout. GHS hosted Pickens last Friday, and like much of the season, the teams dealt with wind and rain.

Bobcats blank Dragons, 2-0

The Gilmer Bobcats sent Pickens home with a sound defeat. GHS welcomed its southern archrival to Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Friday, and the Bobcats left little doubt as to who was the better team.

Gilmer Lady Cats take 2nd

Freshman Lilyan Cook won the girls discus. Five teams gathered at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium for a track and field meet.  The Gilmer Lady Cats were runners-up to Chestatee in the girls standings, while the Bobcats were fifth among boys teams.

Gilmer returned home from the Kids State Wrestling Tournament with three champions. USA Wrestling’s annual event was March 2-3 in Perry.

Tigers clip Bobcats, 3-0

Gilmer High started its Region 7-3A baseball schedule with a three-game series. The GHS Bobcats faced Dawson County last week, and the Tigers won all three games. Gilmer hosted game one last Tuesday, and the Tigers got away with a 3-2 win.

GHS Lady Cats win PK shootout

The Gilmer Lady Cats snatched a region soccer win with a penalty shootout. GHS was at West Hall last Saturday, and the Cats and Spartans were knotted at 2-2 at the end of regulation. Following two overtime periods, penalty kicks decided the game, and GHS came out ahead, 3-1.

Bobcat tennis serves loss to Warriors

Gilmer High tennis met Pickens and White County to continue their region tennis schedule. Both matches were on the road, and the GHS Bobcats fell to Pickens last Monday, 3-2, and the Lady Cats lost, 4-1. GHS was in White County the next day.
