GHS golf finishes second

Gilmer High golfers made their way to Spring Lakes in Chatsworth to tee off the golf season. The GHS Bobcats squared off against three schools last Monday, and they landed in second place with a team score of 299.  Gilmer’s Luke Janssen posted a nine-hole score of 45.

CCMS hosts annual Mountain Invitational

It was a picturesque day for the annual Middle School Mountain Invitational. Madison Balanno clears a hurdle as teammate Kaitlyn Bedwell prepares to do the same. Clear Creek Middle hosted the track meet last Saturday at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium.

GHS Bobcats blast Raiders, 14-3

Gilmer High continued its nonregion baseball slate versus Union County and Southeast Whitfield after rain washed away the much of the week.  The GHS Bobcats made the trip to Union last Tuesday, and the Panthers were able to survive the late innings for a 7-6 win.

Lady Cat soccer back on track

The Gilmer High Lady Cats had a busy week on the soccer field. GHS began last week on Tuesday with its only region match at Lumpkin County, and the talented Indian squad notched a 5-0 win over the Cats.

GHS tennis secures region win

Gilmer High tennis took advantage of a brief break in the clouds to play a region match. Inclement weather led the cancellation and postponement of many events at GHS last week, but West Hall was in town Thursday for the match.

Gilmer track attends annual Creekview Invitational

Gilmer High was in Canton for the always competitive Creekview Invitational. The annual track meet was held last Friday, and 13 girls teams and 11 boys squads made the trip. The GHS Lady Cats and Bobcats combined for 10 top-10 placements and finished ninth and 11th in their respective standings.

Rainy week for GHS Bobcat soccer

The Gilmer Bobcats slogged their way through the week for a trio of soccer matches. GHS played all three games on the road, and first up was Lumpkin County last Tuesday.  While the score was tied at the half, four Indian goals over the final 40 minutes gave GHS a 5-2 loss.

Gilmer’s Hataway named all-state

The leader of Gilmer High’s defense has been recognized for his efforts on the gridiron. Senior linebacker Aspen Hataway was selected to the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s Class 3A all-state football squad. The GACA splits its all-state teams between north and south.

Gilmer baseball trounces Armuchee

A seven-run eruption in its last at bat sealed Gilmer’s baseball victory. The GHS Bobcats continued their nonregion schedule last Thursday at Armuchee, and senior pitcher Ethan McCollum tossed a  one hitter to quell the Indians’ bats.

GHS track runs west

Five teams met at Pepperell High School for an early-season track meet. The Gilmer Bobcats and Lady Cats made the trip west last Thursday, and they combined for 29 placements inside the top five. The Bobcats secured first-place finishes in field and running events.
