GHS Lady Cats drop three straight games

The Gilmer Lady Cats had another three-game week on the basketball court. GHS hosted No. 6 ranked Dawson County last Tuesday. While the Cats kept pace early, they faded in the second half and DCHS won, 61-38. At Lumpkin County Friday, the first half was where the Cats struggled.

Swim holds sr. night

Senior night in Calhoun drew Gilmer High swimmers. The nine-team meet was held last Tuesday, and Lady Cat Esther Bowman was a runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke for the team’s best finish. She posted a time of 1:30.11 and secured a second top-10 finish in the 50-yard freestyle (eighth, 30.82).

Bobcats’ state finals dual run snapped

For the first time in 15 seasons, the duals wrestling state championship did not go through Gilmer County. The GHS Bobcats were on a 14-year state finals streak, which resulted in seven titles.

No. 3 ranked Pickens defeats Lady Cats

The Gilmer High Lady Cats squared off against one of the state’s best basketball teams to continue region play. GHS was in Jasper last Friday, and No. 3 ranked Pickens earned its 19th win of the season.

Gilmer falls to Dragons

The top two teams in the region met on the basketball court and there was a clear winner. The Gilmer High Bobcats traveled to take on rival Pickens last Friday, and the Dragons ran away with the game after the first quarter.

CCMS Bobcats, Lady Cats reach league title games

Clear Creek will battle for a pair of league basketball championships. The seventh-grade Bobcats and eighth-grade Lady Cats were victorious in their home semifinal matchups last week.

GHS swims at region

As the swim season winds down, Gilmer High School was back in Dalton for its latest meet. The North Georgia Region Championships drew 11 teams last Saturday, and the GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats were there in an attempt to achieve qualifying times for state.

GHS wins back-to-back girls area wrestling titles

Gilmer High’s girls are back-to-back area duals champions. This is only the second year the event has been held in Georgia, and the Cats continue to prove they are going to be an issue for teams going forward. Gilmer was seeded No. 1 and faced No. 2 and host Lumpkin County in the finals.

Bobcats 6-0 vs. region

The Gilmer Bobcats are undefeated after their first run through the region schedule. The Bobcats were on the  road at Wesleyan last Wednesday, and the Wolves felt the wrath of Gilmer’s outside shooting. The Cats hit nine three pointers and never trailed beyond the first period for a 65-55 win.

Class 3A state duals await Bobcat wrestlers

Gilmer High celebrated its senior wrestlers before rolling through Etowah. GHS hosted the Eagles for senior night last Thursday, and the Bobcats put on a show for their home crowd. Gilmer won all 14 bouts for its 27th win of the season, 68-0.
