Clear Creek track and field athletes captured league championships in five events.
The CCMS Bobcats and Lady Cats were in Cleveland for the Mountain League Championships March 25. Five teams attended the meet, and the Lady Cats placed third, while the Bobcats were fourth in the boys standings.
Three of Clear Creek’s first-place finishes came in field events. Madden Hopkins was a two-time champion in the shot put (35’) and discus (123’ 10”). Lady Cat Xiaoxing Troxell won the long jump with a mark of 13’ 10 1/2”, which was 1/2” better than first. Kloee Kitchens finished second in the shot put at 30’ 4”.
Roise Everett won the 100 (13.83) and was the 200-meter runner-up (29.36). The Cats also teamed up for the top time in the 4x100 relay when Morgan Palmeri, Jilly Burnette, Troxell and Everett finished in 56.12. They were second in the 4x400 at 4:53.01.
The Lady Cats nabbed second in the 4x800. Sonni Ralston, Kayla Tercero-Perez, Olivia Whitley and Glinda Ambrocio-Perez clocked in at 12:41.51. CCMS also scored team points in the 4x100 as Madison Balanno, Kaitlyn Bedwell, Alyssa Hughes and Whitley finished eighth (1:01.35). Balanno clocked in at 18.66 in the 100-meter hurdles for second.
For the Bobcats, they were second in the 4x800. The team of Clint Carver, Landon Greenwald, Asa Leigh and Shep Oleska finished in 11:53.11. In the 4x400, the squad of Jasper Barr, Tryton Haley, Jeremy Martinez-Farfan and Landon Greenwald took third (4:51.22).
Remaining Bobcat point scorers in running events: 3,200 meters: Martinez-Farfan, (third place, 12:44.31) and Oleska (seventh, 16:39); 800: Martinez-Farfan (fourth, 2:38.25) and Greenwald (sixth, 2:52.77) and 100 hurdles: Alex Raper (fourth, 18.18), Michael Sapp (sixth, 18.71), Barr (eighth, 18.88).
Also, Carlos Montes, 200 meters (fifth, 28.66) and 100 meters (eighth, 13.73) and Martinez-Farfan, 1,600 (sixth, 5:42.37). In the 4x100 relay, the team of Hopkins, Sapp, Montes and Raper placed fifth (53.54), while David Bright, Nathan Grice, Haley and Fernando Montes-Mitas took sixth (56.46).
Remaining Bobcat field event point scorers: Hopkins, triple jump (third, 30’ 8 1/2”); Haley, long jump (eighth, 12’ 9’) Grice, shot put (seventh, 30’ 8”) and discus (seventh, 82’ 9”). In the high jump, Seth Polk was fifth (4’ 4”) and Raper placed seventh (4’ 2”).
Remaining Lady Cat field event point scorers: triple jump: Presley Chancey (third, 28’ 1”), Maryjane Mazursky (seventh, 25’ 5 1/2”) and Alyssa Hughes (eighth, 23” 5 1/2”). Long jump: Palmeri (fourth, 13’ 7 3/4”) and Bedwell (sixth, 13’ 1”). Discus: Kitchens (sixth, 55’ 4”) and Shelly Ghorley (seventh, 52’ 3”).
Also, Density Lester placed fourth in the high jump (4’ 4”) and Ghorley secured the same placement in the shot put (27’ 5”).
Remaining Lady Cat point scorers in running events: Palmeri, 1,600 (third, 6:31.93); Ralston, 800 (fifth, 3:14.76); Troxell, 100 hurdles (fifth, 19.16); Burnette, 100 (seventh, 14.94) and Kensley Shepard (seventh, 1:14.11).
Final girls standings: White County (157), Lumpkin County (139), CCMS (121), Dawson County (112) and Pickens (17). Final boys standings: Lumpkin (206), White (118), Dawson (118) CCMS (91) and Pickens (25).
