Clear Creek baseball turned in a productive season on the diamond.
The Bobcats finished up last month, and rain washed away their last two games. First-year head coach Tanner Davis discussed the year, and the progress the Cats made.
“We did very well this season. From what I understand, that is the most wins (five) in Clear Creek School history, but unfortunately, we did not make the playoffs,” he said. “Our record (5-7) does not do any justice to how good of a team we were this year.
“We lost six games by one run and put up 83 runs all year. We just had one or two errors and walks that cost us late in some games.”
After three straight losses to start the season, CCMS won three of its next five over Pickens (13-9), Dawson County (8-5) and Union County (7-5). The Cats toppled Fannin County, 13-12.
Inclement weather and the impending league tournament led to the cancellation of the final two games of the regular season against Lumpkin and Dawson counties. For those games, each team was assigned a half loss and half of a win.
“We won some big games, including wins over Pickens, Fannin, Dawson and Union,” said Davis. “Overall, it was a very successful year. My goal this season was to change our culture and improve our baseball IQ, and I can honestly say we completed that goal.”
