Bobcats look to build off last season’s success

The Gilmer High Bobcats have higher expectations this season after their state playoff appearance in 2024. Head coach Jeff Thurman returns to the Bobcats’ dugout, and this year’s team boasts some experienced players as the program replaces its starting pitchers.

GHS sends 15 wrestlers to state

Fifteen Gilmer High School wrestlers are heading to state. The final stage of the boys state qualifying process was at last Saturday’s Class 3A B Sectional in Gainesville. Teams from four regions were in attendance, and a top eight placement was necessary for state qualification.

Lady Cats lock up No. 2 seed, state berth

The Gilmer High Lady Cats closed out the regular season with two more region basketball wins. And with that comes a No. 2 seed heading into the region tournament, which guarantees the Cats a state spot. GHS began last week at home Tuesday when the Heritage Generals (19-6 overall)  came to town.

Bobcats Taylor, Bryant each eclipse 1,000 career points

The Bobcats earned a pair of region wins over the Heritage Generals. GHS  began the final week of the regular season last Tuesday at home, and Heritage did not have any answer for Gilmer’s quickness and athleticism.

Bobcats, Lady Cats have state playoffs in mind for 2025

The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats are looking to get back into the state soccer playoffs. GHS just missed out on the postseason last year when both squads finished fifth in the region.  For the Lady Cats, their 11 wins in 2024 was a program best.

Gilmer wrestling wins region

The Gilmer Bobcats’ stellar wrestling season rolled on with a traditional region championship. The Bobcats were in LaFayette last Saturday for the seven-team event, and not much stood between the top three teams. Gilmer ended its day with 215.

Lady Cats sideswipe Ramblers

The Gilmer Lady Cats remain in contention for the No. 1 seed in the region. GHS was in LaFayette last Tuesday for its lone region game of the week. The Ramblers’ zone defense allowed Gilmer to fire three pointers all night, and the Cats snatched another victory, 54-29.

GHS girls are region runners-up

Eight Gilmer High girls will continue their wrestling seasons. GHS was in Dahlonega last Friday for the 29-team Area 6 traditional tournament. Gilmer’s Sarai Solis stood above all among 110 pounders. In the team standings, Gilmer ended its day second to Lumpkin County, 224-185.

Strong second half leads to GHS Bobcats’ victory

The Gilmer Bobcats earned a road win over the Murray County Indians. GHS was in Chastworth last Friday for the nonregion matchup, and the Indians held an edge through three quarters. However, Gilmer came on strong in the fourth and erased the Indians’ lead to earn a 64-55 win.
