Lady Cats back to state

The Gilmer High Lady Cats are back in the soccer state playoffs. GHS sealed its postseason fate last Thursday at LaFayette. The Ramblers were tasked and failed in stopping goal maven Yenifer Lopez. Her hat trick helped the Cats secure fourth place in the final region standings with its 6-2 victory.

Bruins take three from Bobcats on diamond

After a pair of hotly-contested baseball games, the Bruins ran away with game three. The Gilmer High Bobcats  took on Northwest Whitfield last week as region action winds down.

Gilmer runs to Union’s Mountain Top

The Mountain Top Invitational drew six track-and-field teams to Union County. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats made up the field last Thursday, and they placed second and fourth, respectively, in their standings.

Seven teams flocked to Ellijay for the Mountain Invitational. Clear Creek Middle School hosted the annual track-and-field meet at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Saturday. The CCMS Bobcats claimed third in the boys standings and the Lady Cats were third. Lady Cat Rosie Everett was No.

Bobcats win 3rd straight region match

The Gilmer High Bobcats earned two more region soccer wins and outscored opponents 12-0 in the process. GHS hosted Adairsville last Tuesday and smashed the Tigers, 5-0. It only got worse for Ridgeland Friday as the hometown Panthers never stood a chance in a 7-0 defeat.

Lady Cat Lopez’s 8 goals lead to Panthers’ demise

The Gilmer High Lady Cats obliterated the Ridgeland Panthers. GHS was in Ridgeland Friday for the region match to end last week. Senior forward Yenifer Lopez continued to live up to her goal-scoring reputation and put the ball in the back of the net eight times.

Bobcats deny Ramblers in extra innings, 7-6

Gilmer High earned a dramatic region baseball victory. The Bobcats were on their home field last Tuesday to continue region play against the LaFayette Ramblers. GHS saw its six-run lead vanish, but the Cats came back for an extra-inning victory, 7-6.

Gilmer High School golf hosts home matches

Gilmer High was in Chatsworth for a four-team golf match to begin the season March 10. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hit the course at Spring Lakes and squared off against Trion, North Murray and host Murray County. The Bobcats were clipped by MCHS for first, 190-192.

GHS tennis suffers two region losses

Gilmer High was on the tennis court for a pair of region matches. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted Heritage last Monday, and the former was swept while the latter won one match. Gilmer hit the road the following day to take on Calhoun.
