Gilmer girls finish 3rd in state

Gilmer High’s girls battled back to show they are still one of the top wrestling programs in the state. Following its loss in the semifinals of the state duals last Saturday in Lumpkin County, GHS won both matches in the consolation bracket to claim third place.

Bobcats take down Panthers in OT

The Gilmer High Bobcats earned an overtime region road victory at Ridgeland. GHS met the Panthers last Tuesday, and a crucial turnover at the end of regulation allowed Ridgeland to tie the score. Gilmer outlasted the Panthers in overtime to win, 86-83.

GHS Lady Cats win 5 straight

The Gilmer Lady Cats are on a five-game winning streak with their latest two region victories. GHS made the trek to Ridgeland last Tuesday, and the bottom-of-the-region Panthers endured their ninth region loss of the season. The Cats led from wire to wire and rolled to a 65-35 win.

Gilmer wrestlers nab 2nd

Gilmer High wrestling was back on the traditional tournament scene following state duals. The GHS Bobcats made the short trip to Jasper last Friday and Saturday for the annual Burnt Mountain Classic. The event drew 28 teams, and the Bobcats racked up 151.1 team points to place second.

GHS wrestling among state’s best

The Gilmer Bobcats proved they were one of the state’s top teams. The unheralded Bobcats were in Troup County for the Class 3A state duals and narrowly fell in the quarterfinals of the 16-team event.

Lady Cats keep winning

The Gilmer Lady Cats have hit their stride and racked up three more wins. The victories started last Wednesday evening at home versus Northwest Whitfield. The Cats claimed the region win by a 59-47 margin, and the only run the Bruins made came in the second half with GHS starters on the bench.

Taylor scores 46 in lopsided victory

The Gilmer Bobcats earned a commanding senior night victory versus Murphy, N.C. GHS hosted the Bulldogs last Saturday, and Bobcat senior J.D. Taylor erupted for 46 points in the 81-61 victory. The week started at home Wednesday against region opponent Northwest Whitfield.

From 4th seed to region champions

No one really gave them a chance, and they “took it personally.” The Gilmer High Bobcats had a chip on their shoulder and were in tip-top form for the Region 7-3A duals last Thursday at Heritage. GHS entered the event seeded No.

Jackets hold off Lady Cats for region victory

The hot-shooting Calhoun Yellow Jackets delivered a region basketball loss to Gilmer High. The GHS Lady Cats made the trip last Wednesday to take on the Yellow Jackets (8-5), and some defensive adjustments finally slowed Calhoun. The Cats emerged from the locker room at the half down by 12.

Slow first quarter dooms Bobcats versus Calhoun

Inclement weather kept the Gilmer Bobcats off the court for most of the week. GHS played its lone game last Wednesday at Calhoun, and a rough start plagued the Cats for the remainder of the game. The Yellow Jackets built a 14-point lead by halftime and went on to win, 64-50.
