GHS Lady Cat tennis tops Fannin Rebels

Gilmer High was on the tennis court for region and nonregion matches through the early season. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats played four matches last week, and the latter earned one win. The Lady Cats’ triumph came Friday at home against Fannin County.
The 10-under Gilmer Bobcats won their third straight District 7 basketball title last week with tournament victories  over Oglethorpe (35-21), Fannin County (37-24), Commerce (43-30) and Lumpkin County (34-11). The state tournament is up next, and the Bobcats are looking to bring home the championship after placing second and third the past two seasons.

GHS track kicks off season in Gainesville

Gilmer High was off and running in Gainesville to begin the track and field season. The Bobcats and the Lady Cats combined to score points on 26 occasions, which included four first-place finishes.  GHS shined in the shot and took first in the boys and girls divisions.

Lady Cats fall to Dawson in nonregion matchup

The Gilmer Lady Cats continued their nonregion slate versus the visiting Dawson County Tigers. GHS hosted Dawson last Friday, and the Tigers dominated possession and the game. DCHS netted two goals in each half and silenced the Cats’ attack for a 4-0 win.

Cats make it to Sweet 16

Gilmer High snapped its four-year state tournament drought, and the Lady Cats showed they were not satisfied with just a berth. The No. 19 seeded Cats were in DeKalb County last Tuesday to take the No. 14 seeded Stephenson Jaguars.

Tornadoes sweep Bobcats out of state playoffs

Gilmer High was tasked with wrangling the Golden Tornadoes in the first round of the Class 3A state basketball tournament.  The GHS Bobcats made the 260-mile venture to Albany last Wednesday for their matchup against Monroe High.

Gutillo mashes two home runs in win vs. N. Murray

Gilmer High baseball continued its nonregion baseball schedule and added another win to its credit. The GHS Bobcats hosted Pickens last Tuesday, and the visiting Dragons came on strong early and added insurance runs late.

Bobcat, Lady Cat soccer blanks Fannin

Gilmer High School delivered a pair of soccer shutouts to Fannin County. GHS hosted the visiting Rebels last Tuesday, and the Lady Cats got the day rolling with a sound 4-0 thrashing. The Bobcats maintained the theme of the night.

The wrestling season is in the books for Georgia’s grapplers. Gilmer High School’s boys and girls were in Macon last week for their respective state tournaments. The boys tournament wrapped up Friday, and five of 10 qualifiers placed inside the top six.

Four Gilmer High Bobcats received the top honor  for their efforts on the football field. The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association’s all-state football teams were unveiled last week.
