Gilmer High hosted its first track meet of the season as four teams made their way to Ellijay.
The event was held last Tuesday at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium, and the host Lady Cats placed third while the Bobcats were fifth.
The GHS girls were first in three field events and tops in one race. Lady Cat throwers led the way in the shot put as Amayah Jones (35’ 2”) and Lilyan Cook (discus, 99’ 10”) placed first. Presley Chancey won the triple jump (29’ 5 3/4”) and Isabella Evans was No.1 in the 400 meters at 1:08.63.
A trio of Lady Cats were runners-up and included Kenzie Sewell (high jump, 4’ 8”), Jones (100 meters, 13.55) and the 4x800 team (12:42.95). Finishing third were Evans (long jump, 13’ 6”) and Cook (shot, 33’ 3”).
Fourth-placers were Addie Vick (triple jump, 24’ 9”), Sadie Johnson (high jump, 4’ 6”) and Jennifer Garcia (3,200, 14:24.22). Landing in fifth place were Gilmer’s Sofia El Khorchi (long jump, 12’ 3 3/4”), Maddy Patterson (discus, 75’ 5”) Jayla Walker (3,200, 15:17.83 ) and Madison Hall (800, 3:07.32).
Douglas Callihan had the Bobcats’ best finish in the shot put where his mark of 42’ 8” was good enough for second. Cheyne Smith was third in the pole vault (8’ 6”) and Dawson Richard (discus, 114’ 5”) and the 4x800 team (9:32.90) secured the same placement.
Taking fourth were Jett Burrell (pole vault, 8’), Cooper Williams (high jump, 4’ 10”), Richard, (1,600, 5:05.45) and Leeland Dantin (400, 55.68). Jeremy Martinez finished the 3,200 in 11:49.86 for fifth.
Lumpkin took first in the girls standings over Dawson County, 42-40, and they were followed by GHS (31), Pickens (26) and Johnson (three). LCHS (60) was the No. 1 boys team as well and next up were Dawson (54), Johnson (20), Pickens (11) and Gilmer (five).
Gilmer travels to Calhoun today for a 4 p.m. meet.
