Adairsville tennis eliminates GHS

Gilmer High tennis ended its season at the region tournament. The Bobcats and Lady Cats both faced Adairsville and endured first-round losses. The Lady Cats earned one win but fell as a team, 3-1. The Bobcats were downed, 4-0. Senior Lyla Engel notched Gilmer’s win in the No. 2 singles spot.
Lady Cat senior Amayah Jones won the Region 7-3A shot put with a throw of 33’ 11 1/2”.

Gilmer High track and field qualified for sectional in 18 events. The initial stage of the state qualifying process took place last Monday and Tuesday at the Region 7-3A Championships in Calhoun. Athletes needed to finish in the top four of their respective event to keep their seasons going.

GHS earns state playoff home match

The Gilmer High Bobcats are set to host their first-ever state playoff soccer match. Gilmer secured the home match by picking up two more wins in the final week of the season. GHS hosted Ringgold last Monday and netted five first-half goals to send the Tigers reeling.

Gilmer High baseball solidified its postseason position with a sweep of the Ridgeland Panthers. It took the Panthers until game three to cross home plate. GHS doubled Ridgeland’s hits in game one and only needed five innings for a 13-0 win.

The Gilmer Lady Cats closed out the regular season with two more soccer victories. GHS was at home last Monday and Thursday to take on Ringgold and North Murray. Against the former, the Cats took a two-goal lead into the half and held the Tigers in check over the final 40 minutes for a 2-0 victory.

Gilmer High wrapped up the regular season with a track meet in Forsyth County. There were five girls teams and the GHS Lady Cats secured a runner-up finish with  80 points while the Bobcats were last among the four boys teams.

Gilmer High baseball notched four wins while outscoring opponents 47-5. The Bobcats took a break from their region schedule for a pair of double headers against Murray and Towns counties. Murray was up first last Tuesday, and GHS celebrated its seniors with two decisive wins.

The Gilmer Bobcats snagged two tennis wins to close out the regular season. GHS hosted Adairsville April 1 and White County was in town the following day. The Bobcats took both matches by a 3-2 margin while the Lady Cats endured losses of 4-1.

Clear Creek Middle School soccer retained its crown as kings of the Mountain League. The Bobcats claimed the league championship March 26 with a 2-1 victory over Union County.

Cats take sting out of Yellow Jackets

The Gilmer High Bobcats claimed their second region baseball series of the season. The Cats took on Calhoun last week, and the Yellow Jackets dropped the first two games. The Cats hit the road Tuesday, and their bats were booming. GHS mashed three home runs and came away with an 8-5 win.
