Gilmer High’s 1,000-point duo of J.D. Taylor and Keegen Bryant were selected as two of the best Region 7-3A basketball players.
All-region squads were announced last month, and they were two of 15 players selected. Taylor capped his GHS career with a spot on the first team, while Bryant was named to the second team.
Among GHS starters, Taylor led the team in points per game (21.7), rebounds (5.7), steals (2.4), field goal percentage (45.3) and free-throw percentage (70). He added 2.3 assists and started all 26 games on the season.
Bryant started every game as well. He ended his junior campaign as the team leader in assists per game (3.1) to go with 17.3 points, 2.1 steals and 4.3 rebounds. He shot 41 percent from the field and 68 percent from the free-throw line.
“Both of their roles changed a little bit this season where they both had to be scorers, and they adapted really well to that,” said head coach Jordan Hice. “There was a lot of pressure on their shoulders. In years past, they were contributing scorers. They handled the pressure well, especially J.D. coming out and being our leading scorer for the year.”
