Gilmer High cross country was back in Blairsville for a yearly meet. The annual Union County Season Opener was held at Meek’s Parks last Thursday, and the GHS Lady Cats turned in a runner-up placement in the nine-team field.
CCMS eighth grader Neeyah McDaniel hit two inside-the-park home runs versus Fannin County last Monday. In addition to Tuesday’s win over Lumpkin County, she finished the week with three hits and drove in seven runs.

A week after rain washed away all of their softball games, the Clear Creek Lady Cats were back on the field for two more league wins. CCMS was at Fannin County last Monday and erupted for 14 runs over the final two innings to smother the Rebels, 16-3.

Gilmer High softball took on a pair of region opponents and endured two losses. The GHS Lady Cats were on the road last Monday at Calhoun. Not much separated the teams through six innings, and Gilmer pulled ahead of the Yellow Jackets in the seventh.

Clear Creek XC continues season at Meek’s Park

Clear Creek Middle School ran its latest two-mile race at Meek’s Park. The CCMS Bobcats and Lady Cats made the trip to Union County last Thursday and placed fifth and sixth in their respective standings. The top five Bobcats included Jackson Towns (6th, 12:57.18), Cole Jones (13th, 13:35.

Clear Creek was back on its home field for league football games. The eighth graders were up first, and all of the Bobcats’ points came in the opening half and they needed just five plays to do it.

The Gilmer High School Bobcats hit the road once again and were in the end zone four times only 14 minutes into the game. GHS put Union County on the ropes last Friday and turned three first half turnovers into 21 points.

Gilmer High softball added two more wins to its tally. GHS was at home for two games to start the week. Coahulla Creek was in Ellijay last Monday, and the Cats unleashed their bats early. GHS scored a run in each of the first four innings, and their defense took care of the rest in a 7-0 win.

GHS XC returns to ‘Preview’

Gilmer High runners made the short trip to Jasper for their latest cross-country meet. The annual Pickens Preview was held at Roper Park, and many of the teams hailed from metro Atlanta. The GHS Lady Cats tallied 359 points to place 13th out of 20 girls teams.

Gilmer High volleyball was in White County for another nonregion match. The Lady Cats made the trip last Thursday to take on the Warriors. The best out of five sets was used to declare a winner, and White came out on top, 3-1.

CCMS XC opens season in Gainesville

Clear Creek Middle School kicked off its cross-country season at the War Eagle Invitational.  The 2-mile races were held Aug. 16 in Gainesville, and the Lady Cats placed fourth out of six teams, while the Bobcats were fifth in a boys field of seven. Karenza Mathis (17:20.
