GHS looks to fix scrimmage mistakes

Ball security and missed tackles plagued the Gilmer Bobcats in their football scrimmage. GHS was in Canton last Friday to take on Class 5A Sequoyah, and the hometown Chiefs used their size and depth to their advantage.

Bowman to join Andrew’s 1st womens wrestling team

Esther Bowman is set to apply what she learned at Gilmer High when she wrestles at Andrew College. Bowman is a 2025 GHS graduate and also considered Brewton-Parker College and Lindsey Wilson University in Kentucky.

Kiker begins RS. So. season at Georgia Tech

When Georgia Tech rolls into Boulder, Colo., to begin the college football season, Ellijay’s Will Kiker will be on the Yellow Jackets’ sideline once again. Kiker is a 2023 Gilmer High graduate and is set to enter his third year in Atlanta.

Glaze tabbed to lead GHS boys basketball

Veteran coach and educator Sean Glaze has been hired to lead the Gilmer High School boys basketball program. He was approved by the Gilmer County Board of Education at its regular monthly meeting last Thursday.
Fifty players were in attendance for the annual GHS youth softball camp. The fundamental camp experienced an influx of participants this summer as it typically drew around 35 players in previous years. (Contributed Photo)

Sophia Lykins was a major component of the most successful soccer season at Gilmer High School. Lykins is a 2025 GHS honor graduate, and the Lady Cats enjoyed a trip to the state playoffs last season.

Bobcats 9 days out from scrimmage

The fall sports season is right around the corner, and the Gilmer High Bobcats will be in Cherokee County for its preseason football scrimmage. The Cats have continued to do much of the same since the Times-Courier last spoke to head coach Paul Standard four weeks ago.

Productive summer for Bobcat wrestling

Caleb Waddell wrapped up his first summer as the Gilmer High Bobcats head wrestling coach, and he liked what we saw. The Bobcats return some experienced, accomplished wrestlers, whereas last season contained many more unknowns at this point of the season.

Hoelzer joins Andrew’s inaugural wrestling team

Kylee Hoelzer received her introduction to wrestling at Gilmer High School, and she will continue her progression at the next level. Hoelzer is a 2025 GHS graduate, and her new beginning coincides with the program she is about to join.
