GHS youth summer camps begin in June

Summer vacation is right around the corner for the county’s students, and Gilmer High School will hold its annual slate of youth sports camps beginning next month. Girls basketball camp will be June 2-4 at the GHS gym from 10 a.m. to noon.

Bruins strike early, hold off Cats

Six red cards were issued in a testy Elite Eight soccer matchup between region rivals. No. 16 Gilmer High traveled to No. 8 Northwest Whitfield last Tuesday for the quarterfinals of the Class 3A state playoffs, and the visiting Bobcats were behind early.

Gaddy is new wrestling director

Drew Gaddy is the new overseer of Gilmer County wrestling. Gaddy, 34, was named wrestling director and will be involved with the sport at all levels. He is finishing his 12th year in education and fourth in Gilmer. Along with wife Haley, they have two children.

Kersh, Bears too much for GHS

The Gilmer High Lady Cats historic soccer season came to a close. GHS was in Hall County last Monday to take on the No. 13 Cherokee Bluff Bears, and the home team had goals to spare.

Bobcats garner all-region honors

The Gilmer High Bobcats were well represented on All-Region 7-3A baseball teams. Landing on the first team was the GHS senior trio of right fielder Noah Gutillo, shortstop Eli Cooper and pitcher C.J. Hatchett, as well as sophomore outfielder Peyton Chancey.

Cook takes 8th at state meet

Gilmer High sophomore Lilyan Cook (above) placed eighth in the discus at the GHSA’s Class 3A Track and Field Championships in Albany last week. Jenifer Garcia finished the mile in 6:04.26 for 13th. She completed the 3,200 meters in 13:16.33 for 11th while Jayla Walker was 15th at 14:16.52.

Roster expands for CCMS football

Clear Creek Middle School was on the football field for two weeks of spring practice. The Bobcats wrapped up the yearly proceedings last Friday, and numbers are on the rise for this fall’s seventh- and eighth-grade teams.

GHS spring ends with team scrimmage

The annual football rites of spring are set to wrap up today. It will mark the 10th practice for the Gilmer High Bobcats, and they will end spring with an intrasquad scrimmage. For head coach Paul Standard and staff, not much changes from year to year when it comes to the yearly event.
