Gilmer High runners made the short trip to Jasper for their latest cross-country meet.
The annual Pickens Preview was held at Roper Park, and many of the teams hailed from metro Atlanta.
The GHS Lady Cats tallied 359 points to place 13th out of 20 girls teams. The Bobcats (476) competed in the boys field of 21 teams and finished 16th.
Pope was the No. 1 girls team, and Greyhound Josie Hutchinson set the pace at 18:32.40. The top five times were used to accumulate team scores, and Lady Cat Ella Schwartz was the first Lady Cat to finish, and she did so in 21:40 for 41st place.
Lady Cat Jennifer Garcia also cracked the top 100 in 51st with a time of 22:10.20. Next up were teammates Salma Gonzalez (88th, 23:20.60), Allison Hernandez (103rd, 23:48.80), Lauren Smith (109th, 24:40.10), Estephany Becerra (132nd, 26:07.60), Liz Gonzalez (147th, 28:18.60) and Braelyn Nolasco (154th, 30:36.40).
Etowah’s Bo Colpeart led the way in the boys race, and he finished in 16:18.50. Bobcat Seth Turner clocked in at 18:29.10 for 56th, and was followed closely by teammate Dawson Richard (60th, 18:32.90).
Remaining Bobcat times were secured by Leeland Dantin (103rd, 19:30.20), Edward Marietta (175th, 23:36.90), Jacob Pantoja (179th, 25:09.10), Asa Leigh (181st, 26:52.40), Daniel Gonzales (182nd, 32:04.90), and Ethan Nolasco (183rd, 34:00.40).
Four Lady Cats ran in the junior varsity race and included Melanie Toledo (98th, 30:05), Josselyn Cecilio (118th, 32:58.50), Rose Bawihnem (119th, 33:01.30), and Alicia Tercero (122nd, 33:54.70).
Behind Pope (37 points) in the girls varsity standings were Marietta (82) and Creekview (123). Creekview (62) was first on the boys side, and Pope (142) narrowly clipped third-place Etowah (147).
GHS will be in Blairsville Thursday for its next meet at Meeks Park.
