Gilmer football enters third week of summer

Bobcat football is one of the many programs at Gilmer High who has been busy in June. The Bobcats were back on Pettit Field Monday to begin their third week of seasonal preparations, and head coach Paul Standard has 81 players on the roster.

Camps continue

Gilmer High’s youth summer camps continued this week with baseball. Boys basketball camp will be June 23-25 at two different locations. The little kids camp (first through fifth grade) will be held at CCMS, while the big kids camp (sixth through eighth grade) will be at GHS.

Usry ready to fly with Hawks

Maddie Usry will keep her volleyball talents in state when she suits up at the next level. Usry is a 2025 Gilmer High honor graduate, and she is set to take the floor for the Shorter University Hawks. Five colleges showed interest and she also received scholarship offers from Calvary College, Mo.

Swim season ‘kicks off’

The swim season got underway at the Cherokee Summer League Kick Off. The four-team event was held last Thursday at the Cherokee Aquatic Center, and the Gilmer Swim Team placed second in both the boys and girls standings.

GHS summer camps continue for county’s youth

Gilmer High’s youth summer camps continued this week with cheerleading. Baseball camp will be June 18-20 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Gilmer Baseball Field located on the GHS campus. The camp is open to boys entering first through eighth grade and the cost is $60.

Berry’s trip from Bobcat to Baron

Hayden Berry is not quite ready to hang up his baseball spikes. Berry is a 2025 Gilmer High honor graduate, and his next destination is Brewton-Parker College. Outside of the classroom, he will continue his maturation as a pitcher for the Barons.
