Gilmer High Lady Cats advance to 2nd round

The Gilmer High Lady Cats are back in the second round of the Class 4A basketball state tournament. GHS punched its second round ticket last Friday when the Cats hosted the No. 9 ranked Stephens County Indians.  Gilmer built a first-quarter lead before Stephens slipped ahead at the half.

Gilmer baseball splits doubleheader vs. Lumpkin

After some soggy weather to start the season, the Gilmer High Bobcats were able to take the field for three games over a four-day span. GHS hosted the Lumpkin County Indians Monday for a doubleheader. The Bobcats struck for four runs in the third inning of game one and came away with a 4-1 victory.

Youth Wrestling Roundup

The Gilmer Bobcat Wrestling Club made its way to the Georgia Novice Championships last Sunday. The event is specifically designed for first- and second-year wrestlers to face opponents of similar skill levels. Gilmer entered wrestlers of multiple ages and 14-under grapplers won their division.

GHS Lady Cats settle for second in region

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were the region’s top team all season until Monday night. GHS sat atop the standings and secured the No. 1 seed entering the Region 6-4A basketball tournament. The Cats met the Northwest Whitfield Bruins for the region championship, and Gilmer settled for second place.

GHS baseball resets roster

Gilmer High School returns to the baseball diamond in 2020 with a new batch of varsity starters. GHS graduated seven seniors off last year’s team that finished the season with a 10-14 record.

Gilmer sends 11 wrestlers to state

Gilmer High will be well represented at this week’s traditional wrestling state tournament. The Bobcats attended sectionals last weekend at Lanier High School, and 11 finished in the top eight of their respective weight classes to earn their spot in the state tournament.
