Gilmer High Bobcats, Lady Cats improve to 4-0

The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats continued their undefeated tennis seasons last week.

GHS was on the road Tuesday for a region win versus the Northwest Whitfield Bruins. The Bobcats notched a 3-2 victory while the Lady Cats came out on top, 4-1.

Versus North Murray two days later, the Bobcats and Lady Cats both swept the Mountaineers, 5-0.

Top GHS single Brett Becker got the Bobcats going against Northwest with a win of 6-4, 6-4. 

The Cats secured their team victory on the doubles court where the No. 1 team of Luke Wimpey and Mason Hadden won 6-1, 6-1 after dropping the first set, 6-3. Gilmer’s No. 2 doubles Brady Sanford and Kaden Reece earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

The Bruins secured wins over No. 2 single Bryson Sisson (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 Issac Bradshaw (6-4, 6-4).

Hope Colwell snagged the Lady Cats’ first win on the No. 2 singles court, 6-3, 6-4. After losing her first set, 6-1, No. 3 single Ellie Teague took the match with victories of 6-3 in the last two sets.

Sarah Sheahan and Beth Burnette won both sets by a 6-2 margin in the top doubles position, while Josie Reece and Morgan White claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 slot.

NHS was able to pick up a  6-0, 6-1 win over Gilmer’s No. 1 single Emma Callihan.

GHS battled though some gusting winds versus North Murray, according to coach Donna Parks. 

Bobcats Becker (6-0, 6-1), Sisson (6-0, 6-0) and Bradshaw (6-2, 6-1) barreled through their competition in singles play.

Wimpey and Hadden won 6-4, 6-3, and Sanford and Reece breezed to victory without losing a game.

Lady Cat singles dominated as Colwell (6-0, 6-2), Callihan (6-0, 6-1) and Teague (6-2, 6-3) all won in straight sets.

GHS continued the trend on the doubles court where Sheahan and Burnette (6-2, 6-2) and Reece and White (6-2,6-3) both won easily.

The Bobcats and Lady Cats have each posted 4-0 records. GHS hosts Southeast Whitfield Thursday for a 4:15 p.m. match.
