Gilmer High School celebrates senior track athletes

Gilmer High School recognized its senior track athletes at its final home meet of the season March 11.

Rachel Bennett is the daughter of Michael and Sonia Bennett. Her accomplishments at GHS include honor roll, FCA Leadership, first runner-up on the homecoming court, most dependable senior superlative, track team captain and leadership award. Her most memorable moments were being region track champions two years in a row and beating Fannin in volleyball on its senior night.

After high school, Bennett plans to attend the University of North Georgia and pursue a career in early childhood education.

Logan Bentley is the son of Randy and Michelle Bentley. His accomplishments at GHS include honor roll, prom court, homecoming court, wrestling captain and FCA Leadership. After high school, Bentley plans to attend Chattahoochee Technical College in pursuit of a welding degree.

Sadie Bryan is the daughter of Roieann Bryan. Her accomplishments at GHS include honor roll and competing on the swim and track teams for four years. Her most memorable moment was finally understanding what to do in AP physics. After high school, Bryan plans to go to college to become a nurse.

Candelaria Escobar is the daughter of Carlos and Rosa Escobar. Her accomplishments at GHS include honor roll, being the FCCLA vice president and qualifying for state competitions. She is a member of the Leo Club and was accepted to UNG and Dalton State University. After high school, Escobar plans to attend college and maintain a part-time job.

Angela Guidry is the daughter of Alton and Amber Guidry. Her accomplishments at GHS include three years as an honor roll student, competing in many sports and clubs and winning a GHS award for swim. Her most memorable moment was practically dying during Coach Ellis’ practices. After high school, Guidry plans to go to UNG and study to be a nurse practitioner.

Nate Jones is the son of Charlie and Starla Jones. His accomplishment at GHS include honor roll and being named Star Student for the 2019-2020 school year.
His most memorable moment was being an honor student in ninth grade. After high school, Jones plans to attend Georgia
Tech.

Colton Ty Lambert is the son of Mike and Sandra Lambert. His accomplishments at GHS include having a great GPA, never failing a class and being a member of the track team from eighth grade through high school. His most memorable moment was going to the region track meet his freshman year. After high school, Lambert plans to go to college to major in software engineering.

Jalynn Ledford is the daughter of Jason and Candy Ledford. Her accomplishments at GHS include lettering in basketball, track and academics. She is on United Community Bank’s Junior Board of Directors, a member of National History Honors Society, FFA, FCA Leadership and will be an honor graduate. Her most memorable moment was winning region two years in a row in track and making it to sectionals those years.

After high school, Ledford plans to major in biology to later earn a medical degree and specialize in forensic pathology. 

Wendy Lopez Luna is the daughter of Elisa Luna.  Her accomplishments at GHS include being a four-year honor roll student and FCCLA officer. Her most memorable moment was winning a region track championship two years in a  row. After high school, she plans to attend Dalton State to earn an LPN certificate.

Nate Mooney is the son of Randy and Amy Mooney. His accomplishments at GHS include being a member of the Science National Honor Society, History National Honor Society, FFA and four-year varsity member of the cross-country team. His most memorable moment was vomiting before every cross-country and track race all four years. After high school, he plans to attend ABAC and major in wildlife management.

Ana Paiz-Raymundo is the daughter of Oscar Paiz and Margarita Raymundo. Her accomplishments at GHS include being vice president of the Leo Club and going to state for FCCLA. Her most memorable moments were winning region twice. After high school, she plans to go to college while maintaining a part-time job.

Anne Elise Williams is the daughter of Tim and Tacie Bracken. Her accomplishments at GHS include lettering in basketball, track and academics and being an honor graduate. She is dual enrolled at Chattahoochee Tech, in the leadership group of her youth group at East Ellijay Baptist Church where she also volunteers at the international learning center.

Her most memorable moment was going to the second round of the state basketball tournament her senior year. After high school, Williams plans to attend UNG and major in early childhood education with a minor in Spanish.

Manager Juliana Sarmiento is the daughter of Jesse Sarmiento. Her accomplishments at GHS include joining track and making it to varsity. Her most memorable moment was going to region her freshman year. After high school, she plans on moving to New York to start a photography business.
