CCMS takes 3rd at state

The Clear Creek Bobcats are the third best wrestling team in Georgia. CCMS attended the Middle School State Duals last Saturday in Hall County and posted a 4-1 record. After losing in the third round, the Bobcats won both matches in the consolation bracket for third place.

Gilmer High swimmers eye final meet before state

The Northwest Georgia Swim and Dive Championships attracted 22 teams to the Calhoun Aquatic Center. The event was held last Saturday, and Gilmer High School swimmers combined  for 11 finals finishes high enough to score team points.

Lady Cats take sole position of 1st place

The Gilmer Lady Cats are in the driver’s seat of Region 6-4A. GHS completed the first half of its region basketball schedule last Friday with a 49-38 road win over the Northwest Whitfield Bruins. “We’re at the top of the region right now at 6-0,” coach Susan Nunn said.

GHS Bobcats cruise to weekend tourney title

Gilmer High School wrestlers finished first in their final tournament before this week’s region duals. GHS traveled to Murray County High School Saturday for a traditional tournament and nearly lapped the field. Gilmer had four champions and won the 16-team event with 261 points.

Gilmer Bobcats foil Fannin County, 70-52

The Gilmer High School Bobcats completed their busy week on the basketball court with a victory last Saturday. GHS played its fourth game in eight days and came away with a victory over the Fannin County Rebels, 70-52.

Waddell takes 4th at ‘Scuffle’

The University of Tennessee — Chattanooga’s Matthew Waddell landed on the medal stand at the 17th annual Southern Scuffle. Waddell posted a 4-2 record and placed fourth at the event, which is touts itself as “the top in-season collegiate wrestling tournament in the nation.” It was held Jan.

GHS junior varsity Bobcats rock Rebels, 77-33

Before their older counterparts took the court last Friday and Saturday, Gilmer High’s junior varsity Bobcats and Lady Cats faced the Northwest Whitfield Bruins and the Fannin County Rebels. The Bobcats were defeated by Northwest on the road, 65-38, before earning a home win over Fannin, 77-33.

Gilmer Lady Cat swimmers finish in middle of pack

Gilmer High School swimmers crashed the all Paulding swimming party Dec. 20. North Paulding played host to East Paulding, South Paulding, Paulding County and Gilmer. The GHS Lady Cats finished third in the girls standings with 269 points while the Bobcats landed in fourth place with 138.

GHS wrestlers return to Tennessee for Bradley Central Invitational

The Gilmer Bobcats were a bit shorthanded at the Bradley Central (Tenn.) Invitational, but that did not stop them from finishing eighth out of 43 teams. The traditional wrestling tournament took place Dec. 20-21, and only seven grapplers from the starting lineup made the trip.
