The Gilmer High Bobcats are on a three game winning streak. GHS secured two more soccer victories last week while outscoring opponents 15-0 in the process. The Bobcats hosted Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Monday and obliterated the Warriors without any trouble, 9-0.
Gilmer’s No. 1 single Brett Becker defeated his Pickens opponent 6-0, 6-0 last Thursday.

Gilmer’s Emma Callihan defeated her Pickens opponent in straight sets last Thursday. The rain stopped for a day to allow the Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats to take the court for a tennis match.

4 Gilmer basketball players voted all-region

Four Gilmer High basketball players landed on the all-region team. Region 6-4A coaches voted and selected 10 boys and 10 girls at the end of the regular season. Lady Cat senior Bailey Teague, junior Emma Callihan and sophomore Elly Callihan were all selected, as was Bobcat sophomore Cade Carter.
The Georgia Kids State Championship was held last weekend, and four Gilmer Bobcat Club wrestlers earned medals in the “little kids” division. From left, are state champions Isaiah Goodwin and Parker Settel, fifth-place finisher Keigan Brookshire and third-place finisher Dawson Duncan.

Six Gilmer youth wrestlers placed at the Kids State  Tournament, and two returned home as state champions. Members of the Gilmer Bobcat Wrestling Club attended the event in Perry last Saturday and Sunday. The “big kids” portion was held Saturday for 14- and 12-under aged wrestlers.

Lady Cat senior Jalynn Ledford finished ninth in the shot put at last Saturday’s Cartersville Purple Hurricane Invitational. The Cartersville Purple Hurricane Invitational drew 13 track and field teams last Saturday.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were able to take the field for a home soccer match and made the most of it. While it was still cold and rainy last Wednesday, it was a departure from torrential downpours that had forced so many cancellations. GHS hosted North Murray and scored early and often.

The Gilmer High Bobcats split their nonregion soccer matches last week. GHS welcomed North Murray to town Wednesday, and the Mountaineers netted a goal in the opening half and two more in the second for a 3-0 victory.  The Bobcats were on the road two days later at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.

Gilmer High baseball dropped a pair of nonregion games ahead of its Region 6-4A schedule. The Bobcats were at home Tuesday and hosted the Coosa Eagles, who scored early and took advantage of GHS errors en route to a 5-0 win.

Gilmer’s Hope Colwell drives to the basket. The Gilmer High Lady Cats faced one of Class 4A’s top teams in the second round of the state basketball tournament. GHS drew the Luella High Lions (24-5) in the round of 16 last Wednesday, and the No. 3 ranked team proved to be a formidable opponent.

Bobcats head south to defeat Long County

The Gilmer High Bobcats took the field for a home baseball game before making their way to coastal Georgia for a pair of Saturday games. The Cats were defeated by Union County and Fitzgerald while topping Long County. Union made short work of the Bobcats Wednesday.
