The Gilmer Bobcat Wrestling Club made its way south to Canton for the Cherokee Open that concluded Feb. 1. Gilmer came away with 20 top-four placers, which included five champions.

For the 16th consecutive season, the Gilmer High Bobcats have won the traditional region wrestling championship. Region 6-4A schools made their way to Pickens High last Saturday where GHS reclaimed its top spot.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats will be back in the state basketball tournament next week thanks to their strong regular season performance. When the Cats defeated the Northwest Whitfield Bruins 46-44 last Tuesday, it gave them an 11-1 record versus region opponents. It also granted GHS the No.

The Gilmer Bobcat Wrestling Club attended the Efren Pedraza Memorial Tournament in Gainesville Feb. 25.  Three Bobcats advanced to the finals of their respective weight class, and Isaiah Goodwin took first place in the 10-under age division at 100 pounds.

GHS Lady Cats a win away from state berth

When Mykenzie Weaver is driving to the basket for points and her Dragonette teammates are making three-point shots, Pickens is a formidable foe. The Gilmer High Lady Cats ran into that quandary last Tuesday on the road, and they suffered their first region loss of the season.

Gilmer Bobcats bash Pickens, 68-47

Following a pair of basketball losses to Pickens earlier in the season, the Gilmer High Bobcats exacted their revenge last Tuesday. GHS traveled to take on the Dragons, and the Cats were clicking on all cylinders while PHS had trouble getting shots to fall.

Woodring maintains winning ways ahead of state meet

Seasonal illness, injuries and no-shows plagued the Gilmer High School swim team last Saturday. GHS made its way to the North Georgia Championships at Dalton High School and had to make some last-minute adjustment to its lineup, according to coach Hope George.

GHS wrestling gears up for final weeks of season

Gilmer High wrestling used last Saturday’s Burnt Mountain Classic to prepare for this weekend’s traditional region tournament. The majority of GHS starters received the weekend off for extra rest and recovery, while a group of mostly backups placed eighth out of 22 teams with seven placers.

Clear Creek Bobcats fall to Union in league finals

The Clear Creek Bobcats’ season was perfect until the last three games. The seventh-grade Cats entered the final game of the regular season with a 11-0 record before falling to the Union County Panthers.  CCMS met Union again two games later in the Mountain League championship.
