Mosley impresses in 1st season at UGA

Sara Mosley takes in the scenes from the dugout during her freshman season. Sara Mosley became an instant sensation for the University of Georgia. The 2019 Gilmer High graduate started all 28 of the Lady Dawgs’ softball games and proved to be one of their most potent offensive weapons.

Senior GHS athletes sound off on the end of athletic careers

The spring sports season went from suspended to canceled indefinitely. Each of Gov. Brian Kemp’s executive orders to keep Georgia public schools closed because of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic made the wait for spring sports that much longer until time finally ran out.

Gilmer’s Waddell has ‘breakout’ season on mat

Matthew Waddell’s season on the wrestling mat drew national attention. The 2017 Gilmer High School alum completed his sophomore season last month for the University of Tennessee — Chattanooga Mocs.  Waddell posted a 22-9 record while notching wins against nationally ranked opponents.

The fate of the spring sports season was sealed last Wednesday. Gov. Brian Kemp ordered the closure of all K-12 public schools for the remainder of the academic year because of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. The order put an end to all home runs, goals and postseason aspirations for athletes.

Rosser, Bears win big

Gilmer High alum Brooks Rosser helped the Truett McConnell University Bears notch a pivotal victory in the school’s annals. Prior to the season’s cancellation because of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, TMU hosted Tennessee Wesleyan University for a three-game series Feb. 28-29.

8U Lady Cats capture basketball state title

The 8-under Gilmer Lady Cat all-stars roared their way to a basketball state championship. The Cats’ tenacious defense and quickness allowed them to smoother teams as its offense hummed.

GHS tennis continues unbeaten season

Rainy conditions limited the Gilmer High tennis team to one match last week. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats traveled to Pickens High Monday and downed their southern rival. It was the second time the teams had met this season, except this time it counted toward region standings.
