GHS wins final home track meet

Gilmer High track and field hosted its final home meet of the season last week. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats welcomed Fannin County and Johnson high schools to Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium Wednesday and the home teams came out on top.

Gilmer High Bobcats back in win column vs. Union

The Gilmer High Bobcats hit the road for a pair of nonregion baseball games last week. GHS traveled to Coosa Monday and the Eagles came on strong in the sixth inning. They forced an early end to the game and handed Gilmer a 10-0 defeat.

Waddell qualifies for NCAA Div. I Championships

Matthew Waddell’s wrestling season will continue at the NCAA Division I Championships next week. Waddell, who wrestles at the University of Tennessee — Chattanooga, finished second in the 184-pound weight class at Sunday’s Southern Conference Championships in Boone, N.C.

Bruins sweep Bobcats to begin region baseball

Gilmer High took on the Northwest Whitfield Bruins last week to kick off its region baseball slate. The series was originally scheduled to take place across three days, but uncooperative weather dictated otherwise. The series began Thursday at Northwest.

Gilmer High Bobcats, Lady Cats improve to 4-0

Bobcat single Bryson Sisson. The Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats continued their undefeated tennis seasons last week. GHS was on the road Tuesday for a region win versus the Northwest Whitfield Bruins. The Bobcats notched a 3-2 victory while the Lady Cats came out on top, 4-1.

GHS Lady Cats win 2 more matches

The Gilmer High Lady Cats nabbed a pair of soccer victories last week. GHS took the field Monday at home against Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe and scored two goals in each half to come away with a 4-1 victory. The Cats ended the week Friday on the road versus region foe Ridgeland.

Gilmer Bobcats on 3 game win streak

The Gilmer High Bobcats are on a three game winning streak. GHS secured two more soccer victories last week while outscoring opponents 15-0 in the process. The Bobcats hosted Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Monday and obliterated the Warriors without any trouble, 9-0.

Gilmer’s Emma Callihan defeated her Pickens opponent in straight sets last Thursday. The rain stopped for a day to allow the Gilmer High Bobcats and Lady Cats to take the court for a tennis match.

4 Gilmer basketball players voted all-region

Four Gilmer High basketball players landed on the all-region team. Region 6-4A coaches voted and selected 10 boys and 10 girls at the end of the regular season. Lady Cat senior Bailey Teague, junior Emma Callihan and sophomore Elly Callihan were all selected, as was Bobcat sophomore Cade Carter.
