GHS swim continues season

Gilmer High swimmers were back in the pool last Thursday in Calhoun. The event attracted eight teams in the girls division and seven in the boys. The Bobcats finished fourth with 120 points while the Lady Cats placed fifth with 74.

Team Cartecay mountain bikers race in Watkinsville

The bike trails at Heritage Park in Watkinsville more closely resemble Gilmer County terrain than any other of the Georgia League mountain bike race venues, which is to say the trails are technical, steep, and fast.

Friday GHS Bobcat game canceled

Gilmer High's football game Friday vs. White County has been canceled. Multiple GHS players were possibly exposed to COVID-19, according to athletic director Matt Johnson. There are no plans to reschedule. At this time, Gilmer will still take the field Nov.

West Hall Spartans conquer Bobcats

The Gilmer Bobcats’ playoff hopes were all but dashed last Friday. GHS traveled to meet the West Hall Spartans and the Bobcats were tasked with trying to slow a well-balanced attack. West Hall found success through the air but kept GHS honest with a pair of capable running backs.

White tops Purple in 3rd annual ‘Classic’

Gilmer High wrestling held its annual Purple and White Classic last Saturday. The event also serves as alumni night as past wrestlers get a glimpse of the latest crop of Bobcats set to take the mat. The dual included 14 bouts with GHS wrestlers split evenly.

GHS swim opens season

Gilmer High swimmers began their season last Friday and already have state qualifying times in tow. The Swim for a Cause event was held at the Cherokee Aquatic Center. The GHS Bobcats finished second out of five teams in the boys standings and the Lady Cats placed third out of six.

Gilmer High cheer returns veteran squad

The COVID-19 pandemic left its mark on all fall sports, and even pushed cheerleading into the winter season. Gilmer High School competition cheerleaders endured all of the practice restrictions that other athletes faced, which included limited interactions and small work out groups.

Clear Creek Bobcats take down Union County

Clear Creek opened its basketball season last Thursday against league foe Union County. The CCMS Bobcats were at home while the Lady Cats hit the road to face the Panthers in Blairsville. For the eighth-grade Bobcats, it was a rematch of last season’s league championship.
