11U Cats set to play for title

The 11-under Gilmer Bobcats are title game bound. Gilmer notched a 33-6 victory over the Dawson County Tigers last Saturday in the semifinals of the Mountain Athletic Conference to improve to 7-0 on the season.

Monroe, Dorsey era comes to an end

Two pillars of Gilmer County’s storied wrestling heritage have left the program. Walt Monroe and Bo Dorsey coached at the middle school level for a combined 36 years as they helped prepare and mold dozens of elite wrestlers.

Bobcats unable to contain Trojan rushing attack

It was the battle of wing-T offenses when Gilmer and North Hall met last Friday. The GHS Bobcats hosted the Trojans, and the region matchup had playoff implications as both are looking to advance to the postseason.

Gilmer’s 11U still unbeaten

Three Gilmer rec football teams will continue their seasons in the playoffs. The regular season concluded last Saturday, and the 11-under Bobcats remain undefeated at 6-0. Their latest win came against the Dawson County Tigers, 37-0.

GHS XC season ends at region

Gilmer High School cross-country runners saw their season come to a close. The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats made their way to Unicoi State Park last Wednesday for the muddy Region 7-3A Championships, and a top-four placement was needed to advance to the state meet.

May returns to coach Gilmer High swimming

Following a one-year hiatus, Mary-Melissa May is back as Gilmer High School’s swimming coach. May has been with the program since its inception aside from last season. Hope George led the team last year but has since moved on to another school system.

Gilmer High files grievance with GHSA

Gilmer High has submitted an “unsatisfactory officiating report” to the Georgia High School Association following last Friday’s football game against the North Hall Trojans.

Tigers mangle Bobcats

Gilmer found little room to run while Dawson County attacked through the air. DCHS hosted the Bobcats last Friday, and the hometown Tigers’ fast-paced offense roared up and down the field. Dawson jumped ahead early and the Bobcats’ offense never got going as Gilmer was defeated, 35-0.

GHS Cats knocked out of state softball tourney

The Gilmer High Lady Cats’ softball season ended two weeks after winning a region title. GHS was a No. 1 seed and hosted the No. 4 seeded Ringgold Tigers last week to start the Class 3A state tournament. The best-of-three series began with a doubleheader Tuesday and GHS lost game one, 6-3.

Rec Football Roundup

Gilmer rec football teams continued their seasons at home last Saturday. The 6-under Bobcats and 9U both faced Lumpkin County and lost by respective scores of 32-0 and 39-0. Gilmer’s 7U met Chestatee and fell to the War Eagles, 20-0.
