Gilmer High began its tournament slate last Saturday at Allatoona High School at the Blackbeard Duals.
The event’s eight teams were split into pools of four. GHS defeated Allatoona (62-15), Veterans (60-13) and Valdosta (42-41) to begin the event.
Versus Valdosta, GHS jumped to a 30-0 lead before inserting some younger wrestlers and backups who gave up bonus points, according to coach Josh Ghobadpoor.
Once seeded, the Bobcats led Lumpkin County 38-0 en route to a 60-15 victory. In the finals, Gilmer lost to Alexander, 40-31.
GHS started the season Nov. 23 at Etowah High School. The Bobcats defeated the host Eagles 45-18 and Kennesaw Mountain, 66-6.
