Team Cartecay retains standing

Storms and falling leaves led to slick race conditions for Team Cartecay riders, having the effect of playing chutes and ladders with wet bike tires on roots at the Dauset Trails Sunday, Oct. 11.

GHS Bobcats thump Lumpkin, 62-7

Lumpkin County won the opening coin toss and not much else. The Gilmer High Bobcats hosted the Indians for homecoming last Friday and put the game away immediately. GHS scored touchdowns on all seven of its offensive possessions in the first half and added two more scores defensively.

Clear Creek Bobcats close out season

Clear Creek closed out its football season last Thursday in Dahlonega. The CCMS Bobcats met the hometown Lumpkin County Indians and the eighth-grade teams took the field first. LCMS scored touchdowns on its final two drives of the first half and CCMS drew within a score  in the third quarter.

Gilmer High volleyball bounced from tourney

Gilmer’s volleyball season ended sooner than expected. The GHS Lady Cats entered last week’s region tournament as the No. 4 seed but were unable to claim one of four state tournament spots. Gilmer met the No. 5 seeded Lumpkin County Indians in the opening round and were defeated, 2-0.

Senior Isabella Chastain tossed a gem as the Gilmer High Lady Cats won their first-ever fastpitch softball region championship. Chastain struck out all but three batters last Tuesday as she fanned 18.

Bears beat Gilmer High Bobcats, 21-6

The Gilmer Bobcats deployed a ball control attack and were still in the football game late in the second half. GHS made its way to Cherokee Bluff High School last Friday to meet the undefeated Bears for a rainy Region 7-3A opener.

GHS Cats set for region volleyball tournament

Gilmer High took the court for a final volleyball tune-up before this week’s region tournament. The GHS Cats traveled to Chestatee last Tuesday to take on the War Eagles. After dropping a match to Chestatee 2-1 earlier this season, Gilmer notched a 3-0 victory.

Gilmer softball maintains top spot

Gilmer High took the softball field for four more region games as they sit atop the standings. The GHS Lady Cats hosted White County last Thursday and secured a 4-3 win. They made the long trip to Cherokee Bluff the following day and destroyed the Bears, 22-2.

GHS Lady Cats claim XC championship

The Gilmer High Lady Cats ruled the trail at Clear Creek Middle School. The North Georgia Cross-Country Championship was held last Tuesday, and the GHS Lady Cats took first while the Bobcats placed second in the boys 5K.
