Adairsville’s Printup scores 45 as Bobcats fall

T.J. Printup Jr. was a one-man wrecking crew against the Gilmer Bobcats last Saturday.

GHS hosted the Adairsville Tigers for a nonregion game that got out of hand in a hurry.

Printup scored 45 on the night, and the Tigers built a 27-point led by the half. While the scoring barrage slowed in the second half, GHS was unable to make up much ground as AHS won, 85-60.

Adairsville made 11 three pointers on the night and deployed full-court pressure that gave GHS fits, especially in the first half. Printup sank two threes in a row to begin the game and made six from beyond the arc in the first half.

Gilmer fell behind 13-0 after a minute and a half and trailed 19-3 midway through the first quarter. When the Tigers were not bombing from three-point land, they attacked the lane for layups.

Brady Sanford led GHS with 13 points on the night and nine came in the first half. Braden Jenkins drained a pair of threes in the half, but Cade Carter was given little room to operate in the post and limited to six points through two quarters.

AHS led 28-13 after the first and 55-28 at halftime, and Printup already tallied 38 points.

Jenkins gave GHS a spark in the third quarter with nine points. He made three free throws in a row after Printup was whistled for a technical foul. Printup was limited to seven points in the third and did not play any of the fourth, which AHS entered with a 73-43 lead.

Both teams emptied their bench in the fourth quarter, and Gilmer suffered its first loss of the season.

Jenkins led the Bobcats with 15 points and Sanford scored 13. Carter joined them in double figures with 10 points.

GHS is 3-1 overall and started region play at Tuesday’s press deadline versus the West Hall Spartans. Gilmer will travel to White County Friday for an 8 p.m. tipoff against the Warriors.
