Clear Creek Bobcats snatch four more wins on hardwood

The Clear Creek Bobcats closed out their regular season on the basketball court last week. Versus Lumpkin County  Monday, the seventh-grade Bobcats won 43-39, while the eighth graders claimed a 36-35 win.  Three days later against Pickens, CCMS seventh graders downed their rival 51-45 in overtime.

Gilmer High returned to the basketball court for three region games last week. The Bobcats traveled to Cherokee Bluff Tuesday and a slow second quarter resulted in a 74-36 loss to the Bears. GHS was at home Friday and defeated the West Hall Spartans, 75-61.

CCMS Lady Cats topple Lumpkin County Indians

The Clear Creek Lady Cats were in action last week against the Lumpkin County Indians. The seventh-grade Cats secured a 34-29 win Monday with a strong second half. Clear Creek eighth graders did the opposite and jumped ahead early on their way to a 38-21 win.

The Gilmer Lady Cats appeared to regain their form on the basketball court last week. The Cats suffered their first two losses of the season a week prior coming off an extended COVID-19 break.
Clear Creek’s Keegen Bryant scored seven points for the seventh-grade Bobcats versus Fannin last week and added 15 more points in the eighth-grade’s victory.

The Clear Creek Middle School Bobcats were back on the basketball court last week following Christmas break. Clear Creek hit the hardwood Wednesday against the Fannin County Rebels. The seventh-grade Cats were up first and were defeated 52-41 while CCMS eighth graders  came out on top, 55-33.

The Gilmer High Bobcats ended their four-game losing streak on the basketball court last week. Gilmer hosted region opponents North Hall Friday and Lumpkin County the following day. The NHS Trojans were able to hold on for a 55-45 win after building a formidable 17-point lead at the half.

The Gilmer Bobcat Duals were the destination for six wrestling teams last Saturday. GHS hosted the annual event, and this year the field was cut in half and a round-robin format was used. The Bobcats posted a 5-0 record on the day to walk away as champions and improve to 11-1 on the season.

The Gilmer High Lady Cats were back on the court in Dalton last week. GHS played in a Christmas tournament over two days at Christan Heritage School. The Cats first met Coahulla Creek Tuesday and Class 3A’s No. 3 ranked Colts won, 61-58.

While there were some pit stops along the way, Eric Turner found a baseball home in Kansas. Turner, a 2018 Gilmer High graduate, attends Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan. and pitches for the Saints.
