GHS Lady Cats snag 4 wins in final week

The Gilmer Lady Cats’ final week of the regular season concluded with two region and two nonregion volleyball wins. GHS was at West Hall last Tuesday for region matches and downed the Spartans and Flowery Branch Falcons in two sets.

Dawson edges Clear Creek 8th grade, 7-6

Possessions were scarce in last Thursday’s eighth-grade football game between Clear Creek and Dawson County. The CCMS Bobcats hosted the visiting Tigers and rushing attacks dominated the day.

The White County Warriors did just enough to escape Ellijay with a junior varsity football win over the Gilmer Bobcats. GHS hosted WCHS last Thursday and while the Bobcats won the turnover battle, they fell short on the scoreboard. Gilmer led by six at the half.

Clear Creek hosts annual XC championship race

A day before the high school race, Clear Creek hosted the North Georgia Middle School Championship. The 3.2K cross-country course slinks around the CCMS campus and up and down its hills, and Fannin County finished atop the boys and girls standings.

Bobcats run away from Eagles, 28-19

Gilmer Bobcat turnovers and penalties allowed East Jackson to stay in the game. GHS traveled to EJHS last Friday and the Eagles still had a chance in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats responded with three touchdowns over their last four possessions to put the game away for a 28-19 victory.

GHS Lady Cats suffer 1st region setback of season

The Gilmer High Lady Cats endured their first region loss of the season. Gilmer hosted Lumpkin County last Tuesday, and the visiting Indians had just enough at the end. LCHS broke the tie in the top of the seventh and Gilmer’s comeback fell just short in a 6-5 defeat.

GHS splits region volleyball matches

The Gilmer High Lady Cats came away with another winning week on the volleyball court. The Cats were in Dawsonville last Tuesday and secured a win over the hometown Tigers while dropping its match against the North Hall Trojans.

Clear Creek jumped ahead early, and a driving rain and sloppy conditions did not make the White County Warriors’ comeback bid any easier The CCMS Bobcats scored on their first two possessions and the defense continually made plays all day.

Cats’ goal line stand cements win

Gilmer made a stop when it absolutely needed to. The GHS Bobcats hosted Murray County last Friday for a football game that had its share of offensive firepower. But by the second half, both teams settled in defensively as yards were tougher to come by.
